How many model years do you think the C7 will see?
If this was already discussed, I apologize, but I got to thinking, Since GM doesn't have a set standard on Corvettes and how many model years each generation will see, how many model years do you think the C7 will see before transition to a C8? The C6 was 9 model years. The C4, which was the worst looking Corvette in my opinion, was 13. Just curious to see what you guys think....I'm saying 2021 will see the new generation.

Advancements in technology will render the C7 obsolete in about six to seven years if not sooner. Also the need to satisfy Federal Safety and Gasoline Mileage regulations will have to come into play. So I think you will see a new generation around 2018 or 2019. It will be a short run, but will be a popular run. I do predict this will be the last V-8 Corvette. Technology will make the V-8 obsolete in about four more years.

My guess is the C7 sticks around through at least 2020. The Corvette gets halfway decent fuel mileage compared to many of its competitors; Chevy did good things with the LT1/4.

Almost all Corvettes have been innovative for their time, I never really liked the look of the C4. I still can't decide between C6 and C7 as my favorites. The C3 is next on the list for my preference. I'd love a 72 Stingray.

My dad had one when I was a kid and I'd like to get one to commemorate his in the early 80s. He'd love it. It is what started my love for Corvettes when I was only about 5-6. (I was born in 1979)

But, you're right on the other points. Technology is increasing exponentially. After 5 production years, the C7 will be old news and a new generation will come at latest in 2019 as a 2020 my. It's 4 years away from reveal and 5 away from hitting dealerships. That's my guess.
I expect to see the use of carbon fiber in the structural parts of the chassis to reduce weight. Carbon fiber production is becoming increasingly common and less expensive. It will continue to become mainstream in automotive production in the next 5 to 10 years.
In the meantime, I'm going to LOVE the crap out of my C7 as it is by far the best car I've ever owned.

I remember hearing on the Forum that the C7 would be a shorter run relative to the C6. Five/six MYs. I am thinking 2020 with some kind of big money/HP model showing the way in MY 2019. But, what do I know.

I think we are pretty much at the brink of performance cars as we know today. As said above, regulations and a generation that could careless about performance will put the kibosh on today's performance cars. Turbos and hybrid technology is going to kill the V-8 along with the need to meet mpg mandates. If you like what you have now, enjoy it. They ain't gonna last for ever.

I'm going to go a step further in my projections. The exponential growth of data technologies may actually render the Corvette out of existence. If you put all of the enormous changes in civilization into this equation, there is the foolish panic over "climate change" that is forcing carbon fuel into a corner, the growth of technology, the advent of AI, and the forced changes by governments (society at large) that intersect at a point where driving personal pleasure vehicles will become unpopular. Already we have Silicon Valley and auto manufacturers colluding on self driving cars. There are immense profits to be made in growing these data technologies and developers are going to force it into our lives. Necessity will do the same. I would not be surprised to see cars like Corvette become a thing of the past. There might be one more generation but none after that. At some point, and in the near future, technology is going to take over and that could be in the form of mandated driving policies or even AI will control everything. Its kind of scary actually.

With the amount of money it takes to get an all-new vehicle to the market, I would say the C7 will be around for 7-8 years.
The market on the Z-51 and the Z-06 will cool down, so they will bring out a Grand Sport and/or ZR-1, or maybe even something new, like an SS Corvette, pace car, or something like that. Before they re-vamp the entire car and spend millions, I predict they will make changes changes to re-spark the sales like they tried with the 427 Convertible, Grand Sport, etc of the past.

Good responses. Thanks for the insight and replies guys. Just got me thinking. I'm sure there will be some different models at some point. I love the Stingray name and am very happy I was able to get one.
