C7’s at USAF Exotic Car Show-Long post/pics
(This is the first of two posts about fun events that I attended last weekend)
I was lucky to be invited by veteran racecar driver Bill Adam to participate in the Homestead (Florida) Air Reserve Base Exotic Car Show last Friday. Bill, as president of SAMA, is the organizer of this show, and he arranges a wonderful assortment of cars for the enjoyment of military personnel at Homestead. Here is an incomplete list of cars that were on display:
2015 Supercharged Corvette Stingray
2015 Dodge Viper
2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat
2015 Jaguar F Type
2015 Porsche Turbo S Cabriolet
2015 Porsche 918
2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale
2015 Nissan GTR NISMO version
2015 Nissan 370Z NISMO version
2015 Mercedes Benz SLS GT3 race car
Daytona Prototype race car from Rolex/Tudor race series
Porsche GT race car
Corvette C6R race car
Ferrari 458 Challenge race car
2015 Mercedes Benz CLS
2015 BMW i8 Hybrid Supercar
2015 Audi RS5
2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0
2015 Supercharged Viper T/A edition (1000 horsepower)
2015 McLaren 650S
Vintage 1968 Ford Mustang
2015 Corvette Z06 Coupe
Numerous tractor trailers unloaded expensive cars on the flight line:
The cars were arranged around an F-16 fighter jet from the 482nd Fighter Wing :
Bill assigned me a spot up front next to the jet:
Here's another view, and you might see the unexpected Z06 in there:
The Z06 was a pre-production demo unit sent by GM. It was brought from Michigan as the only car in a 6 vehicle tractor trailer transport. The guy in black was the Viper driver:
Here is another way to dry off a wet car after washing (or rain). Or maybe melt it:
Since it was an Air Force base, my car was well received:
Unfortunately, it rained off and on all day, but many turned out anyway and enjoyed the cars on the flight line, as well as the launching of several F-16 jets. A planned “race” between an F-16 and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat was regretfully cancelled.
It was a great event, and I really enjoyed returning to Homestead, where I was stationed many years ago!

I'm pretty sure he meant the guy in the black pants, black shirt and black hat, not the guy in the green bag (flight suit).

I thought it was interesting that the Viper driver (and owner I believe) spent a lot of time looking and asking questions about the Z06.
