While I agree with your about location, location, location (I live in the City of Sanit Louis and pay for the privilege ) I'm surprised by the replies because in fact the rates paid are surprisingly consistent.

The miles driven stayed the same. Cost is ~$1100/yr.
You forgot one major factor that is not widely known: Your credit score. This is something that has come up in recent years. If you pay attention to the paperwork you now sign for insurance, it includes permission for them to run your credit.

Take their hint and go elsewhere.
Geico is a low risk insurer and Mike is exactly right. They have decided they no longer want to insure your corvette. This is how they tell an otherwise good customer.

Is this per year or per 6 months? I am guessing 6 months.

While that was true in the past when there were many high risk cars like the Corvette in 1978 and ticketed drivers that they wouldn't insure at any cost, that has changed. They even insure motorcycles now so I don't think they are "low risk insurers" anymore.

Back in 1978 I was thinking about buying my first Corvette and after they told me they wouldn't insure it, I went looking for alternative insurance. In 1978 you could buy a brand new Vette for $11,000. The cheapest insurance I could find was $3,000 a year. I bought a Firebird instead and Geico insured that no problem at regular car rates.

Default Insurance Increase

Called geico, they told me the insurance industry re-categorized the c7 to be a sports model....or something to that effect...and that is the only reason it increased.

Similar experiences?
I am an independent insurance agent and I represent four different companies. My insurance on the c7 is under $400 a year. I know that the companies I represent have not change much on premiums from the c6 to the c7. Check with other insurance companies.

As I said, $644 for a full year. Unfortunately, USAA was charging me $600/yr for a 2008 Harley that I rode less than 1000 miles/yr. Also charged me about $520/yr for a 2009 Miata. Both have now been traded in for the C7 (on order).

From Hagerty mine went from my C5 ( 600 to 1200 ) Z-51 but car value replacement value went from 20,000 to 60,000 so if I had some other car that was valued at 60,000 I'm sure it would be about the same price !!! Wayne

I am having the same issue with Geico. I just quote going from a C6 to a C7 and the rate increase is 498 every 6 mos, or 996/year INCREASE. Policy with other vehicles is 775.60 to 1273.90 every six months.

Best post on thread.

Nationwide did the same with my policy. It dropped for a couple years, now it's inching back up.

Geico is close to the top of the heap as ins. companies go. Rate hikes? They ALL will hike rates for the right circumstances.

So, is the Corvette your only car with them? Sounds very low to me, for a stand alone rate on a Corvette.

Default Insurance

We went up 12.00 a year-from a 2007 DTS to a 2015 C-7. This is with USAA!

They are a great company!

So why don't you check with collector car companies !!! I personally don't want the corvette on my Farmer's insurance company with the other cars because you can get in a case they can say well you have 3 cars so both drivers have access to any car !!! With my Z-51 I am the only driver and I usually drive it only about 5-6 k miles a year on that car !!! Wayne

This has to be it for those of us that are decades+ insured and get our rates more than doubled, even with a stratospheric credit score in the ionosphere - and no other negatives or changes on our profile's.

I have USAA and they have been pretty good to me.

Total auto policy is 1300 for six months, 250 deductible.

2014 Stingray 3LT Z51, 10,000 miles or less a year

2012 Range Rover Evoque Dynamic, 12,000 miles a year

2006 GMC Crew Cab Dually Diesel 10,000 miles a year

1980 Corvette 6,000 miles a year

Stingray is 410 for six months.

I am 51 years old, 800 plus credit score. A speeding ticket two years ago.

I got my car last Dec and insurance with Hartford. Just received my renewal. It went up 48%. Nothing changed from last year till now. I called Hartford and they said their insurance rates went up and there was not any negotiating . So I'm looking too for new insurance.

I've had Geico for 15+ years. When I bought mine in October 14 they quoted me $525.00 6 months (Virgina). I moved it to Florida at 6 months (saved some tax money) and it went up close to $50.00 (6 months). I have 4 other cars and 3 Haley's insured in three different states with them and all have $1000.00 deductible. Now that I have had it a year I called them and went through the coverage and since I only have 6000 miles on it they dropped it by $180.00 a year and told me if my wife and I take a safe driving course online ($10.00 each) they will drop the total bill by $200.00 a year.
It is true, they look at your credit rating, lower credit higher risk.

On another note Geico guarantees new parts on a repair, if someone is getting used parts it's most likely the the shop doing it.

Default Defensive Driving Course

If you take the online Defensive Driving Course and you're over 55 (I think) and you pass, GEICO drops your insurance 10% for three years. Takes about 2 hours on line to do the course and I think it costs $20. And if you take it seriously as you should, it will make you a saver driver and save you money, and maybe your life. So my insurance for a year is around $2000. That's $600 over 3 years for 2 hours work. I wish I could get more work like that.

As a matter of course, I have my agent (who is independent) shop our insurance every March (2 cars and a truck) when our policy comes up for renewal. The OP getting a rate increase of $800 is insane and I do NOT buy the re-evaluating excuse. Corvettes have been cheap to insure since the C5. Dave Hill spoke years ago about how they (the engineers) spoke with insurance guys about making the cars cheaper to insure (insuring performance cars in the 1990's was EXPENSIVE). In particular, things like the clam shell hood on a C4 made it much more expensive to fix when hit and hence, no more clam shell hood. Corvettes (starting with the C5) are literally modular and very inexpensive to fix in a basic "fender bender" type accident. It also helps that the average age of a Corvette buyer is 54.

I don't have experience with Geico but years ago, I tried Progressive and got "teaser" rate you are speaking of....
I was quoted a rate then get my first bill and, wonder of wonders, it's $200 higher. I call, they apologize, and say they will fix it. So, I get a new bill, and now it's $125 higher....I call AGAIN, the apologize AGAIN, send another new bill that is $75 higher than the original quote. The three strike rule applies for me so I moved on. BTW, there was a big class action suit against Progressive years ago just because of these shenanigans.
