Default VIN 00022 rear-end crash update and pics

Well, it's been 2 weeks since the C7 was rear-ended. Total cost to repair is $9,000. Her insurance will pay everything. I also have filed a Diminished Value report done by AutoLoss.com. They do a great job and survey Chevy dealers across the land regarding what the depreciated loss would be and whether or not they would resale the car. All 18 dealers said they would not put the car on their lot. Estimated diminished value ranged from 30% to 70%. AutoLoss.com put my diminished values at over $23,000. I guess we'll see what comes of it.

My friend Roger Preston from Horsepower Sales will be posting the latest pictures I just received from the repair shop. Made me cry. To replace the rear bumper, diffuser and the cargo area fiberglass they had to take off the doors, rear fenders, rear bumper/diffuser, roof and this doesn't begin to address replacing the seatbelt retractors and pre-tensioners.

I just hope the folks putting it back together again don't lose any of the parts

Jeff

Good luck but don't expect to get that diminished value. I'd say $2-5k.

Sorry for your turmoil! I would be a mess! Hopefully, it will soon be over, and you will be driving your beautiful car, not focusing on diminished values! Best!!

If it doesn't work out the way you want it with the depreciation, you can always hire an arbitrator.

That sucks. Keep your head up and move forward. Hope it looks good as new and that you enjoy it as much as before.

Get it fixed and trade it. Diminished value will show it's ugly head immediately. Ammunition to fight insurance company. A year from now it will be to late. Hope everything works out.

Can you post any pictures of the damage before the car was taken apart?

The funny thing is the fiberglass bumper and diffuser and other outward parts only had small dents and separations. All the damage was behind the fiberglass parts.

I didn't know your car had been hit; I missed the thread on it. (I'm also glad no one's knocking you for using the term "fiberglass" )

It does look like whole new parts are going in there and I suspect the car will be just fine at least to the eye.

As to the diminished value part, that's really good info for all to know. I seem to recall that some states don't allow for it (or it could be companies in some states don't allow claims for it). That's a severe hit in value, esp. if there are dealers that wouldn't even put it on their lot for sale with that report on it. The sheer number being more than a couple indicates just how serious a value-killer that is to the car.

Tell us how that claim turns out for you. And continued good luck with the repairs. It does seem as if you are in very good hands in that regard.

The guy looks confused. "Where do I start?"

"WTF Are you still doing here? I don't want to start working on your car until you go away"
