What Steven was saying (in my opinion) is that while it is generally acceptable behavior to remind someone that they should have searched can be done the right way:

"Just so you know, this is a topic that has been covered quite frequently here. Here are some search results for you" and perhaps provide them with some search results.

as opposed to the wrong way:

"RTFM you f'n noob"
"Oh my god, not another thread on this"
"Search is your friend"
"Can't you read? There is another thread about this on the first page"

Same message, different delivery.

Nine times out of ten the topic is right there in the thread title. If you've (not necessarily you personally) seen it, read it or posted it and don't have any interest in it, why would anyone bother to post just to chastise someone?

^^^^ Right....

Guys, help new members out! YOU were once brand new to an Automotive Forum. They're excited about their new C7. Please.....DO NOT make their initial time on this site a negative one-welcome them here and congratulate them on their purchase. Help people out-you needed help at one time too.

HELP CREATE A MORE POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT HERE IN THE C7 COMMUNITY!

^ THAT is so very often the root of Threads going sideways here, imho. If we could all post with a bit of humility and congeniality, rather than pomposity and arrogance, I'd wager more Threads would stay on course.

And, once again, simply DO NOT RESPOND to what you perceive as trolls and negativity spreaders - because, as soon as you do, you're playing their game.

Hey Ken, just wondering, if you do so much searching, then why do you have such a high post count?

Over 23 posts/day average. I'd say that's pretty high for someone who uses the forum search function for information, wouldn't you?

Oh, and I don't have a C7 and I don't even own a Corvette right now. I sold my C5 a few months ago. What would I possibly be doing on the C7 General Forum? Mostly reading. Some good entertainment here.

Unless Jane posted that Dexos oil is better than Mobil 1, in which case it is the only appropriate reply.

An interesting parallel going on here. People recently entering CF and wanting CF to conform to them. A lot of butt hurt folks joined in the last year.

CF is the electronic equivalent of guys sitting around the garage talking $hit and turning some wrenches. Now it seems we have a lot of metrosexuals here. Just my $.02

^ Perhaps, you might consider toning down your political views and biases that are attached to your every post.

Please don't read that as my taking issue with your views and opinions - you are fully entitled - but your 'message' is rather strong, and perhaps not germane to the Corvette topics being discussed.

Just some food for thought . . . .

That could also be banter in PR&C though. My post count has skyrocketed since I went into that section (and I've unfortunately lost my soul there ). So my post count is artificially high from being in OT and PR&C. Just a possible explanation.

Not calling a troll out for being full of it only empowers them more. So we are damned if we do and damned of we don't.

^ I don't think so - Trolls need playmates to make their trolling worth while. Don't feed them, and they will go elsewhere to find someone they can play with.

Absolutely not.....if you're trying to have a conversation with someone and no one responds, then who are you REALLY talking to?

No one......

What I'm saying is-trolls are trying to bait you into a pissing match....it's their nature. If you don't take the bait, they are powerless because they are talking to no one.

It's almost like the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

As a relative newbie here, I have been reading and asking questions for some time as I consider buying a C7. Lots of good information, but as many have stated, a lot of it is tainted by unnecessary attacks. As a long time user of forums that are similar in makeup, search can be a valuable tool, and it may be frustrating if your word searches are not specifically matched in the text on the forum. Not an uncommon forum, especially when a user is npt familiar with nomenclature of the topic. If a question is asked that has been answered any number of times, pointing the OP to a recent post will quickly provide them with help, and will likely be reasonably painless to someone who is contstantly reading and reviewing content on the board. In a lot of forums, it provides the opportunity for newer members to "contribute" to the board by pointing another to information, and more senior members typically ignore it based upon the topic or a quick read of the initial content.
I think if folks show a bit of consideration and compassion to members unfamiliar with the content of the forum, we can make this a friendlier and more inviting to those trying to learn and share about this fantastic car!

It's hard to see why you're so upset about the few repetitive questions being asked by newcomers when about a third of the posts on the forum are repeats of:

Cool ride!
Congratulations!
Enjoy your car!
Lookin' sharp!
My car was born...

See Crabber's post - he's exactly right as to why....

You mean my avatar and accompanying text? Nope, ain't gonna happen as I refuse not to be true to myself Oh, and you do know that one's avatar (and accompanying text) is global and not restricted to one section only of the forums, right? Surely as a Senior Member you know that.

(if you find it offensive, you can figure out what *I* find offensive....)
