How much of the Corvette market will this thing eat?

As cool as the Camaro Z28 is I don't see it eating into Corvette market share or vice versa. It's great at driving on a race track! If you're buying it for daily driving, that might be a wrong decision.

Go rent one for a day and you'll have your answer.

They only built 500 Z28's for 2014, so even if everyone of them was purchased, instead of a C7, that low amount won't mean a hill of beans. Rumor is that GM may build 1500 for 2015.

The Z28 is a dedicated track car and does very well there. Looking at the Car and Driver Lightning Lap list at VIR shows how quick it is on a track against some very quick and expensive competition. However, a good track car might not be as good a street/touring car. I know that I would not trade my ZL1 Camaro for a Z28 even if it is four seconds faster at VIR. The ZL1 is a much better touring car as is the new Corvette. Our 2015 Z51 does not have the mileage of our 2012 ZL1 but in the short time we have had it, I know it is going to be a great car on both the street and the track. A 2014 Z51 Corvette was within half a second of a 2013 Z06 with the Z07 option at VIR. That makes the C7 Corvette a very capable track car and a great touring car as well.

I've owned four 5th Gen Camaro's, including a ZL1.

Don't get me wrong cuz I love the Camaro, but the C7 is much more of a "driver's car" than any Camaro.

That's why I traded in my ZL1 for a C7.

I doubt the Z28 will have any impact on the C7 sales. Too few produced and different type of buyer for the Z28.

The bad thing about buying a 14/15 Z28 is your buying at the end of a "model" run and the new styling will be out soon. So you own the baddest, but not newest. They should have saved the Z28 for the start of the 6th gen, but that's marketing.

Can't really compare the old Z07 time with the latest times as VIR has been repaved, and times are about 2 secs faster now. That would put the C7 Z51 about 2.5 secs slower than a Z07 optioned C6Z.

For myself...I would much rather have my $53,000 1LT Stingray Coupe than a $75,000 Camaro! If I was to spend that kinda money....I would be looking at a '15 1LZ Z06 at $79,000

It's my understanding that MT didn't include a C7 in their comparison test for best driver's car.

Take a 1LT Z51 and add tires as on the Z28 (PZero Trofeos) and you would have an interesting comparison. PZeros are $1356 on Tire Rack, probably the closest similar tire in Z51 size.

The Z28 is a track special. The corvette is a cruiser for old men..... 2 different markets....

If you want the fastest car.....the z28 is it. But this is a corvette fanboy site. If its slower than a vette its a POS for being too slow. If its faster than a vette its a POS for costing more, or being not as pretty, etc..... you make up the excuses.
