C7 Drag Races a 2015 Ducati Diavel
Now, let me just start this out by saying that this is a Ducati-sponsored video, so you can pretty much guess how the damn thing’s going to turn out.
Still, I find it pretty entertaining in how the C7 is now being matched up against anything and everything much like that showdown with the exotics I talked about here in an earlier report. In this case, the new Stingray has been paired up against a 2015 Ducati Diavel motorcycle in a ¼-mile drag race, which seems more intent on leveraging the new Corvette’s popularity to try to promote the bike more than anything else.

With driver, the Ducati has a tremendous weight to horsepower ratio advantage. About 7.8 lbs/hp for the C7 and 4.5 lbs/hp for the Ducati.
The C7 driver did not put in a very good time - 12.58. The C7 fast list has 5 bone stock C7's running under 12 seconds.
Still, no contest due to power to weight difference.

Then ducati will use an 1198 or better and the result is the same. Hard to beat two wheels. look up Ducati vs Lamborghini. Find the one with the 1098, cool video.
The car can only take it in braking, 4 brakes are better than two. Only to fall behind in every curve and straight.

I used to Road race a Ducati 1098S with 155 RWHP. Let me tell you..it takes a VERY experienced rider to get a Big Twin off the line without fliiping over or killing it. Not so much with a Corvette. My Z06 is waaaay easier to drive fast than any sportbike.
The 1098S is a sub 10 second ride...the Diavel...not even close.
Its all rider/driver. BTW, the Corvette should spank that Diavel, and keep up with most 600cc bikes. My 1098S or ZX10R or BMW S1000RR will still run from most cars.
The Vette has MUCH MORE TIRE.... this will allow it to out corner and out brake a sportbike.

Next curve it happens all over again. Since the finish line is on a straight, the bike wins every time.
I agree with the other post, only a profession rider can do this.

Bikes and cars each have their advantages and disadvantages.
I have a decently set up (for track days) super charged C5 Z06 as well as a '99 R1 with a similar track setup. I also have a mostly stock '12 BMW S1000RR as a commuter bike.
When it comes to acceleration the bikes are clearly faster. When it comes to lapping at the track, I do similar lap times with the Z06 and the R1. They just do the laps differently. The bike accelerates way quicker, but the car brakes and turns better. For comparison of any specific vehicles there are too many variables, especially driver/rider talent.
For my specific skill level in a car and on a bike, with my specific vehicles, I end up with approximately the same lap times.
As an example of the acceleration difference I can tell you that I've done a bunch of 10.2-10.3 runs at 137-139 on my 145 rwhp R1. Even with the 550 rwhp I have I would be unlikely to beat that with the Z06.
Now, if you consider that my S1000 with a pipe and a tune has 195 rwhp you can imagine the acceleration you get.
I have not taken the car or the S1000 to the strip since I'm a road racer kind of guy.
Here are a couple videos demonstrating the acceleration of the S1000 against a car:
Of course people will argue, but the S1000rr is about the fastest accelerating vehicle you can buy. But, the Veyron and some other cars have a much higher top speed.
The debate will always go onnnn..............

for the record, only a 'Gadson' can make that bike run that quick. Gadson's are small quarter mile amazing riders.

In my previous post I stated that I had done many 10.2's and 10.3's with my '99 R1. The magazines all listed that bike at 10.1, but they used their professional testers. I am much more of a "regular guy", yet the best I could do is to get close to pro tester times. Always keep in mind driver/rider skill when comparing any race or contest.
All the magazines have done 9.9's or better with the S1000rr, Kawasaki ZX10, Suzuki Hiyabusa, and Kawasaki ZX14. All at approximately 150mph. Check the car magazines or wikipedia for car times: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fastest_production_cars_by_acceleration
Its not about "my car is faster" or "a bike is always faster." Its about understanding the acceleration of vehicles.
Go ahead and continue to argue over ridiculous claims and excuses. There is no doubt that in general bikes stomp cars in acceleration. I own both, and I can tell the difference.

Don,
That is what I thought too (about the Diavel)...the local dealer (AMS) has been running in the high 9's with their Diavel at TX Motorplex (see link below)! Not sure about what mods they have done, but then again, these guys are not your average riders. Jeff Nash and Marty from AMS can *ride*, as well as sell, Ducatis!
