Oil change at Jiffy Lube?

How could the idea of using Jiffy Lube even entered your thought process? I am not mechanically inclined and I would probably tell the a local chevy dealer my concerns regarding oil changes and slip him a few bucks to make sure it is done right.

Yeah, dealers have never been known to screw up oil changes on dry sump Corvettes
The C6 boards are full of dealer screw-up stories.

While I wouldn't personally trust Jiffy Lube with my new $60,000 Corvette, I'll play devils advocate for a second.
1) Changing the oil on Corvette is caveman simple. So simple I bet you could teach an animal to do it.
2) The technicians at Jiffy Lube change the oil on more cars in one day, than most of the DIY members of CF have done their entire life. Those guys are no doubt highly experienced.
3) Because Jiffy Lube mainly works with commuter vehicles, the technicians who do get the opportunity to work on a new Corvette would probably be EXTRA CAREFUL to make sure they do it right. For them it would be nice treat, to an otherwise boring and repetitive job.
4) There is no guarantee that even your Chevy dealer will do a perfect oil change. Chevy dealers have been known to screw up something as simple as an oil change.
So at the end of the day. Could you let Jiffy Lube change the oil? Yes.
Would I recommend letting them change the oil on your new Vette? No.
Does the dealer give you free oil changes for the first two years? Yes.
Is it really that hard to drop the car off at the dealer and pick it up when they are done? No.

I would add that the lube tech at a dealer isn't a mechanic and is likely a teenager no different from the techs at most quick change places. I was a lube tech at a dealer when I was in high school.

I pretty much agree with whats already been said about Jiffy and other places that probably pay minimum wage. The is really no special challenge about the non Z51 oil change but a lot of other things might happen. If the car is lifted, will it be lifted by the rockers? Will the fenders and hood be properly protected? Oily hand and butte prints all over your interior?
I guess you see the point!

I have a non-Z51.
Is there anything 'special' about having the oil changed by one of these quick stop oil changers vs bringing into the dealer? Anything I should tell them don't do this or be sure and do that?
Yes, I know, I know but I'm not a mechanic nor do I really want to take my car to my local dealer as they have very (very) poor ratings/customer service. So much so I ended up canceling my order and having my car shipped from the east coast. I don't care about the free oil change and will only bring my car to the dealer for warranty work in which case I will have to have it towed/trucked 60 miles out to avoid local dealer.
Thanks for any pointers!!

1) They dont lift any car. The car is driven over a open pit where one technician works underneath to drain the oil, replace the filter and lube the maintenance points on the car. The same (or another technician) then comes to ground level to fill the oil, check all fluids, check tire pressure, filters, etc.
2) When they do get inside your car, they vacuum the carpet and then put paper mats on the floor not to dirty your carpet. They then clean the inside of your windows. I have never heard some them leaving oily prints anywhere in the interior. If anything they give the interior a quick cleaning.
I think some of you guys need to get out more. Jiffy Lube is nowhere near as bad as some of you would make it out to be. The same horrible exxagerations you make about their service.. is the same horrible exxagerations that Porsche owners make about GM dealerships. Think about that for a minute.
Jiffy Lube is great at what they do, which is quick oil changes and fluid checks. The only reason I tend to avoid them, is because I think they are overpriced ($39.99 and up for basic service) and they tend to push extra services/parts that are unnecessary (air filter, fuel system flush, windshield wipers, etc). While we all love our Vettes and want only the best care for them. Trust me there are many more expensive cars that go Jiffy Lube every day. You will see plenty of BMW, MB and Audi's in line to get serviced there.

They are much more professional than that.

Great, realistic post, thank you. I do my changes myself , but as I've said elsewhere, my local Midas shop is a great bunch of guys that have worked on a lot of my stuff with superb results.

I've been going to my local Jiffy Lube for many years now and never had a single problem. Vacuuming the interior and cleaning the windows is part of the service.
Yes, they do try to up-sell, but they also take 'no' for an answer.
I wouldn't trust them for anything but an oil change or radiator flush, but that is what they do and they do it well. They are just convenient.
I wouldn't take a dry sump engine to them, but I wouldn't hesitate to take a non-Z51 to Jiffy Lube.
And I don't really put any stock in anecdotes. I've worked with new car dealerships for many years have have first-hand stories of their horrible screw-ups on customers cars. It happens everywhere.

I've had my C5Z06 for 13 years and it's only been in someone else's hands twice .. took it to the dealer for its 30,000 mile checkup/service and had new tires and alignment by Expert Tire while I watched like a hawk. All routine maintenance I did myself.
It's kind of a pain in the butt to get the car in the air (I bought a kwik lift years ago .. a little easier than jack stands), but it's MY car. I know when I do it myself that it will get done right. When I do it myself I know I'll let it drain for a good 30 minutes and get (almost) every drop of old oil out of it. When I do it myself, I know the drain plug (magnetic) will get checked and cleaned, that it won't get over-tightened, that the filter will get pre-filled and the rubber ring lubed with a little oil, the mating surface will be cleaned and that the filter will just be snugged tight and won't require a jackhammer to remove next time. I know I won't scratch the paint or make a mess. Etc etc. When someone else does it, you never know what you'll get, whether it's Jiffy Lube, or the dealer, or Bob down the street. It might be done right, or it might not. I'll be doing my own service on the C7 too. I won't be getting free oil changes from the dealer .. I'd rather pay a few bucks and do it myself, and not have to worry about it.
Why gamble on something so simple to do yourself?

oil change nightmares
hi you guys oil changes on my c6 I've used independents, main dealers
and now have a guy that I can talk to he has his small garage that repairs predominately Volvo/ Subaru he dose me a deal on the labor
and parts etc. the thing I like is when I drive it onto the ramp I get to look under the c6 so I know if anything is leaking or bone dry it gives me a better picture of my car and I have complete confidence in his work he's never let me down, the car has 180,000 miles on it, so the morel of the story is no more dealer gin palaces with over promises
and under delivered service
