Thinking about possibly trading up for a Z06
So, I currently have a 2014 Stingray that I really love; however, I have been thinking about possibly trading it in for a Z06. Has anyone else thought about doing this? A part of me feels bad because my car is great, but another part of me is thinking that the Z06 will be even better!

I thought about it for about five minutes....
Then I had a supercharger/full exhaust/meth installed and Im making Z06 power for $20k~ less
I don't track the car I simply get from stoplight to stoplight as fast as I can so the added features of a Z would have been wasted on me.
The Z is awesome though! I just think if I had one I'd spend more time polishing it and staring at it rather than flogging it like I do my stingray

And we all thought about it. Heck, I've already sold my Premiere Coupe getting ready for it.

I am on the fence, after the pricing comes out I will make the decision. I agree with the comment about spending more time polishing instead of driving. If I do not commit to driving it than it's a no go for me. I have spent to much time babying cars than driving them and I cannot do that anymore, I would rather have no car.

Good luck with under eighty thousand. My bet is eighty four with no opitions. The advice you got to spend twenty thousand with a good reputable tuner is great advice. You will go just as quick but without all the external gingerbread.

I agree with your thinking on pricing, course it's all just an educated guess at this point. For those who have done the interim Stingray step, you've done exactly the right thing. Enjoy the Stingray for X amount of months and then unload it while the passion is still hot and supply hasn't caught up with demand. I'm sure you got out at just the right time at little or no cost and now can move on to the Z06, which will completely transform the C7 experience. Many of us have bypassed the Stingray as we wait for the Z06 cause we are sitting in supercharged C5's, C6's etc and know the huge seat of the pants thrill difference between a stock vette and a supercharged version. To the OP, if the budget will allow, move up to the Z06. Although the Stingray is not a dog by any stretch, the almost 200 HP AND TQ increase in the Z06 will catapault you into a completely different experience. Do it. You will have a permanent S--t eating grin on your face every time you ease into the throttle even half way as you will have virtually full torque available instantly with the positive displacement blower in the C7 Z06( my 10 GS has an LPE built motor Maggie supercharger putting out roughly 686 FWHP/666 FWTQ on a Mustang dyno, which is a little more than the C7 Z06 will have, so I know how it's going to accelerate pretty much. Trust me, this is an experience you don't wanna miss if you can afford it)

What part of the Z06 do you think will make it "even better?"
The Speed? The Looks? The Handling?
I bought a 2014 back in September last year, loved every bit of it up until about a month ago when I got rid of it.
Now I have a 2015 Z51 on order and it should be here in September. I have ARH LT's and a D1SC Procharger in my basement waiting for the 2015. I plan on throwing those on there and driving it until the Z06 gets released and then I'm going to pick one up.
The reason I want the Z06? Because it looks bad *** and it's a Z06!
For my everyday driving, I will not benefit from anything the Z06 has to offer but every time I look at it I bet I'll smile!
Is it worth $20k+ more? Only your wallet can answer that!

I own an eye popping aw z51 stingray coupe that has gotten more comments & attention from people than any car I've owned x10. I was anxiously waiting for the new ZO6. I was told by 3 Chevy dealers that I was #1 on their list for their first allocation. I would periodically check with them just to let them know I was serious. I caught a bad vibe from all of them because even though they all wrote down my contact info, it seemed they had no recollection of who I was or what the heck I was talking about. I even shook hands with their sales managers. So it became apparent that I was being ********ted. So rather than going through that agony I picked up a beautiful arctic white z51 coupe that is faster than I will ever need so IMO no performance mods are necessary. Maybe in 2 or 3 years when the dealer antics subside and I could actually get a zo6 for about 2 or 3 grand off MSRP ill trade my car in for one. Since I don't track my cars and just enjoy the owning experience and spirited drives about the only benefit go trading up for one is bragging rights and amped up badassdom.

I blew enough money on a loaded Z51 and don't want to both take a loss and spend even more, so I'm married to this car for a while however when the C8 comes out I might consider going the Z06 route.

Now that I know the Z06 isn't losing any features the base has (i.e. removable top, streetable suspension), I'm 99.99% sure I'll be picking up a Z06 later. Probably in 2016, though. I like my current C7 and want to pay it off before I pick up the Z06.

The C7Z51 is such a good car for the street, I can't think of how much better the Z06 could be. (for the street). The Z06 won't be able to give you quite the supple ride the Z51 can because of the much wider tires. And I'm also curious to know what GM will rate the car in the 1/4 mile. GM has pegged the Z51 at 12.0, the old Z06 at 11.7, and the old ZR1 at 11.3. I can't see the C7Z being any faster than the old ZR1 because of the purported huge increase in weight. The C7Z51 could be your best daily driver.

Aesthetically, I think there was a huge difference between the C6 base and the C6 wide body. The base body lines looked like they were missing something, particularly from the front. I don't think this is the case with the C7. I think the base C7 looks great.
That said, if I had enough money that I could take a loss on my 2014, sign the papers on a Z06, and sleep well at night, I'd do it.

I'm just waiting to see the price. I love my 1LT Z51, but a 1LT Z06 would be even better. Part of me hopes it's too expensive to consider, so I can just forget it, because if it's around $80, I'm going to try to find a way to buy one.

So what do you think our 2014 Z51's will be worth on trade? Let's say we wait a year so the hype cools down, and look at a 2016 Z06... I am guessing the Z is going to be 85K lightly optioned. Best guess is that our 2 year old Stingray's are going to bring 50K trade in value, 55K if we sell them out right. Do you guys think these numbers are close? Then add the additional sales tax and licence fees (another $3,000) and it is going to $38,000 to trade up That is why I keep thinking Procharger

For those who are fearful GM will overprice the Z06, GM has to compete with the Stingray and the after market. If the price is too high, guys will say f--- it, I'll just buy the Stingray and be happy or send the Stingray to my favorite forum after market tuner. For example, Lingenfelter will do an Edelbrock supercharger with 624 HP/600 TQ for $11,000 or one with 700 HP with cam and heads for $ 15,000 including a 3 yr/36000 mile warranty on the engine. For the street, the experience isn't going to be that much different to warrant one paying an exorbitant amount just to have a Z06. GM knows all this as they hang out on here and other places where vette enthusiasts gather.

Let's say you buy the Z06 for 85K in 2016, keep it for three years and trade it, you might get around 55K, maybe 60K on a trade in. If you go the procharger route and kept it for 4 years, equal to 3 years on the Z06 and traded it, you might get around 30K is my guess. Whether selling privately or trading the cost of the supercharger typically yields nothing. So let's say the procharger with maybe headers installed costs you 10K. Add that to the roughly 20K depreciation on the Stingray at trade in, gives you around 30K total cost to own the Stingray. So since maybe the cost is the same( 30K for the Z06 and 30K for the Stingray), going the Stingray route gives you 4 years of fun, cause you can supercharge the Stingray now versus 3 years of Z06 fun cause you have to wait a year. The trade off is, the procharged Stingray will not have any drivetrain warranty and the Z06 will have a full warranty with a factory beefed up drivetrain to handle the big additional power.
