Default Radar detector mounts

I have been researching a less expensive mirror mount for an Escort Solo radar detector than the Blendmount one. I like the mirror mount that they have, but at $130 it is more expensive than what I need as I do not need all the wiring harness, etc. I would also like to get the same mount for our Mini JCW as we use the same detector in multiple vehicles. I have read that the higher location improves the reception for the detector and also results in a less visible appearance than the sticky cup mounts in the middle of the windshield. I searched the threads about this, but have not found one that really addresses this question.

Blendmount is pricy, but is the BEST!....

Agreed!

There is an alternative, posted in several threads here. Should be able to find it with a search.

Check out Great lakes Trophy, He has a mirror mount (3M Tape), that works great. Yes he is a corvette guy.

It would suit my needs except the mount is for the Passport unit and it is a different mount than what the Solo series use. Thanks for the information, I would purchase it if they had it for the Solo series!

I've seen various mounts, including the blendmount. I believe all of them should work. I do remember seeing one that a friend had that really wasn't worth two cents because it kept falling apart but I cannot remember which one it was and I don't think you can get it anymore. So, anyone will do. However, when you hold these in your hands you understand why the blendmount is so expensive. It is extremely solid compared to the others.

Cheers.

Escort StickyCup mount. Set it once and forget it about it. No more rattles or flimsy mounts.

Cons: Bigger than average

Pros: Solid. Cops may confuse it for a GPS mount.

Not sure what was wrong with your mirror or setup, but I've had mine in my GS for well over a year without any issues or vibration, and now have one in the wife's Stingray and it is solid as expected.

Pricey, but excellent quality.

The Great Lakes mount is the other one I was thinking about, and seemed to get some favorable reviews.

I'd prefer not to have to screw into the teim, but that's just me... Looks like it puts the detector in a good position.

I agree, the blendmount should not have caused the problem. I do like the positioning of the setup I have now. I holds the V1 right at the bottom edge of the mirror. You can't get it any higher than it is without the mirror interfering with the unit.

The screws are not seen by me or the passenger unless you hang under the dash and intentionally examine the mount. If I remove it, I'll just retain the screws (black heads and small) to fill the holes and leave it at that.

From what I've seen of photos of the Blendmount, it holds the V1 closer / lower to the mirror than I care for (blocks my view across to the right). If I get the time I'll design my own mount that holds it further forward and lower, similar to where I've got my V1 suction cupped to the window currently.

Default Great timing for this thread

Yesterday morning I ordered this dash 'sticky pad' and the C7 Jake buckle belt from http://corvettec6collection.com/inde...m_content=main and it came today. I had the Escort Max windshield mount but rough roads caused too much bouncing on the 'sort of heavy' detector. It eventually loosened up in the front area and I didn't want to be without it long enough to send it in. Now it sits great anywhere I plop it on the dash and can be removed in a flash if someone in 'Blue Lights' wants to have a chat . It's made for a smart phone. I tried to get it from the Museum store but they didn't have it with the Stingray emblem, neither did they have the Jake belt & buckle. Prices were same both places but I would have liked to be able to get it from the Museum to take advantage of the discount. Oh well.

The bottom photo is the Max smart cord and one of the Escort phone mounts that just has room to suction itself to the top of the power outlet. Works well that way for the smart cord app.

They are giving the pad away for just $12 bucks. Too bad there's not a walk in store around here to save the freight.

Thanks for the responses. After researching everything I could find I am going to give Blendmount a call although to-date I have not been able to speak with a human! I also need one for our Mini JCW. I move the detector between cars. I like the Solo 3 due to it's portability and no cords. It has worked faithfully for us except for the laser warning due to hard acceleration, sort of a bummer, but with lasers if they hit you, it's too late, so I simply disabled it as it is not an issue in our normal driving areas.

By using longer 6-32 screws and plastic spacers from the hardware store you can add length to the mount.

I've used the suction cup mounts that came with my V1 for the last 14 years without a problem. Even when I forgot to take it off on a track day! Makes it easier to clean inside of window when you take it down too.

I do hard wire the power connection, and remember, that you want to mount it as high as possible as the range increases with the square of the height off the ground. The cord is the really aesthetically unpleasing item.

Black heatshrink is a great way to help hide the power cord.

By the way, does HRO know you used their name in your vanity call?

No vanity call I'm one of the original HRO's actually my original call was WN6HRO when I was a Novice!

I did get a vanity call for our club call WR6AAC which was our original repeater call back in the 1970's.
