Any 1LT'ers wanna add HUD?

I had the HUD installed on my 2LT '10 GS, (2LT in MY '10 did not include HUD). Honestly, you will need the specific HUD windshield. I did not have that and the image was not sharp at all. In fact, it was annoyingly blurry, i.e., double image. So annoying that I stopped using the HUD. Don't let anyone tell you the image will be clear. It will not be. And, certainly not worth a 2K+ investment. Just letting you know what my experience was.

With how cheap it is now to get the HUD on a C6 compared to when I put mine in, I would do it. The install has been streamlined as well over the years. After 7 years and 103k miles, the last 80k or so using the HUD, I couldn't do without it now.

Wow, OP has ***** of steel. I hate pulling off a trim piece.
The owners manual says there is a specific windshield for the HUD display, otherwise the image may look out of focus. Page 10-37

Once I started I couldn't just stop. I did learn alot about how to take a c7 apart in those couple days.

Good to know you can add it later on, but I really wish they would offer the HUD as a stand alone option on the 1LT package.

I agree. They should have offered as a stand alone option for 1LT package. I would have went that route if they did. All the other 2LT features are niceties that I could have lived without. Once you've had the HUD, it's tough to drive without it. The color HUD in the C7 makes it even better.

It looks like it might be easier to buy a HUD and then go get all of the parts for a C7 and build the C7 around the HUD....
This is absolutely nuts to just get a HUD. At the point of buying a 1LT vs 2LT, you might as just pony up the $4K and upgrade to get the HUD. What is $4K in the whole scheme of things at this point.

Ouch, sort of makes me cringe to see how much component removal is involved. Surely not much of a job for someone who has never disassembled a modern cars instrument panel. And, good luck to that first timer getting it back together w/o squeaks and rattles. Don

I think they look cool, but that's all it is is something that looks cool. You get all the same data right in front of you in the dash screen. It's just repeating the same info. I'm fine not having it.

With all due respect, considering most are paying $60k-$68k++, why on earth would $2k additional cost for 2LT make such a huge difference. Heck, the 2LT will most have an edge on re-sale value. Plus, tearing apart the dash after the fact is ridiculous, IMO.

Seems like one shoulda bouta ita at the time of purchase.
Now the only 2 options I will miss in the 1LT which I ordered are the Homelink and the Auto inside Day/Night mirror, and I plan on Jerry rigging both!

HUD on 1LT
I too wanted the HUD only out of the 2LT package but as everyone knows it cant be done. I spoke to my selling dealing about this and they wanted nothing to do with it. I added HUD to my 2008 and the results were very good. Its to bad we cant ala carte more options. Maybe as the years go on some one will figure out a kit that isn't to bad. Vette on!!!!

I had HUD on my C6 convert and loved it except it was pretty much unreadable most of the time during daylight hours. I never drove it much at night. I wanted it on my C7 but it was about the only thing I wanted in the 2LT package. Finally convinced myself that I didn't need it for the $4100 extra. I have not missed it one bit in my C7. I guess because the IP is so nice!!
