after you cancel your subscription? I know the phone app is active for 5 years but does anything else work? Is there anything like a "no cost basic features set"?

Best 'no frills-911-only' plan is still a paid service. That's the one I kept in case I go off a road somewhere...

I don't believe there's any free services available. If it acts like other GM vehicles, you simple receive a message to call (press button) and (re)activate.
