Default NPP - Miss the Gurgling Sound

My manual 2008 C6 Z51 coupe made a really noticeable gurgling or popping sound as it decelerated which I loved. I don't hear that anymore in my C7 Z51 with an A6. Does anyone else notice this? Is it because there's so much more insulation that I can't hear it? It's not because it is switching to V4 because I still don't hear it when engine is showing V8 on DIC. I have the exhaust set up to match the driving mode which is always sport or track for me.

I wonder if it's because people complained about the "interruption" noise my 2011 GS makes when up shifting. Many of my coworkers have commented on this as I drive away. I figured GM tried to get away from this as the aftermarket exhausts such as Corsa don't have this irritating pop. Just wondering.

I have it... I think its great actually.
But you only get it in decel if its from high rpms while in paddle mode with the V4 off

That's right. Hit 2nd gear early and then pop 1st gear a bit early and you get a great decel growl. It's happened a few times while in performance shift active mode and breaking briskly.

Love that sound. Go with the paddles and you'll get the gurgle all the time.

I do get that delightful gurgle and pop on deceleration with my M7 in the sport or track modes. I love pulling into a busy gas station!

I pulled the fuse on my 2009 and even my wife loved the sound as I let off the gas. I drive in sport mode in my m7 C7 with the exhaust open and it doesn't have quite the same sound. It certainly isn't as obvious.

I LOVE that interruption sound on the npp cars. Its hard to explain why, but it sounds so badass in my opinion.

autos just don’t have the same back pressure the manuals do. My C6 GS was a 6 speed and I loved the gurgle/pop sound. I’ve noticed my C7 auto does it once in awhile with paddle shift and high RPM deceleration, but nothing like the old GS.

Yes, it's real. My auto C7 doesn't make near the loud sound that my manual C6 did. That's why I was asking. I don't use the paddles that much which may be why. Overall the C7 is much quieter in the cabin than the C6. I think that in combination with the A6 vs manual accounts for the difference in apparent gurgling sound. Just wanted to see if anyone else noticed.

Try it in Performance shift mode.
If you give the gas an aggressive romp and release the DC should say performance mode. It downside as you drive and sounds pretty aggressive. I call it happy mode.

good find ken. . .interesting read. . .so it's due to unburnt fuel igniting with oxygen which only gets into the pipes on deceleration from pressure waves causing a vacuum. . .very interesting. . .even though i don't have my C7 yet (any day now), this same burbling etc was on my S4 and my old Z4. . .sounds amazing and i can't wait to hear it on my stingray!

What's performance shift mode? How do you enable this?

Just drive spiritedly and it automatically engages. It keeps the RPMs up in anticipation of continued spirited driving.

I'm assuming this is for automatics only

For manuals, performance shift mode often engages when the driver's favorite song comes on and the volume is suddenly turned up. I read it in the manual somewhere...
