Chrome Wheels on C7
#41
I don't hate on the chrome, but i've never had them and was worried that they'd look bad a lot faster than painted wheels. I've also never had black before, so thought that i'd give it a shot and while I don't like black rims on a lot of cars, it does look good on this one in my opinion. I think I might not have made some of the best choices with regard to some of the options/colors, but it's too late now and i'll have to learn to love what I bought for a loooooooong time at this price! (I'm a younger guy who can't buy one of these every few years!)
Plus, once you go black, you never go back. We'll see if that holds true!

I would not even buy a C7 if chrome wheels weren't an option. It has nothing to do with BLING, but everything to do with style. My patrol car has blk wheels... No personal vehicle with blk wheels for me.

I went with the standard silver painted base wheel. The base wheel actually looks really good when seen in person, even the dealer commented favorably. I think my car was the first silver base wheel they sold. The design curves of the wheel don't show in a photo. The Stingray doesn't lend it self to the bling of chrome. Black wheels are not for me.

Black is OK on some configurations, but not for me.

Chrome wheels was "IN" in the `60s, `70 when cars had a lot of chrome on them in the grille, bumpers, mirrors.
BUT with the need for weight reduction in the `70's and `80s the big chrome days were numbered and gone.
With no chrome on the car, the chrome wheels no longer matched with other areas on the car, unless one had chrome/silver trim items.
So, if you have a car with chrome/silver trim then chrome/silver wheels are fine as they will match up nicely.
BUT the C7 has a lot of black instead of chrome/silver trim in the vents, rear fascia. SO, that then makes the black wheels an excellent choice to match these areas. Chrome/silver not so much.
If you accessorize your C7 with a lot of black trim then the best matching wheels will be black not chrome/silver. Chrome/silver wheels will clash badly and look out of place in that car.....less black then ok.
Try to stay with two dominate colors on the car and you will be fine.

Here is why I went with chrome wheels on my non-Z51.
After seeing every combination of OEM wheels and colored calipers on both Z51 and Non-Z51 C7s last fall at Kerbecks, I came to this opinion.
1) Both the Chrome and Black wheels (Z51 and non-Z51) look very good depending on whether the existing C7 Chrome trim stays or is modded to become black(ish). That would include the C7 Logo on the front and back, the front grill bar, Corvette lettering on the back, and the fish on each side.
2) The non-chrome base Z51 and non-Z51 wheels seem too dull to me contrasted against the gloss finish on the stock calipers and especially the very noticeable gloss finish on the optional red and yellow calipers. Also when keeping all the above mentioned Chrome trim pieces.
3) The exterior color of the C7 didn't matter too much when picking wheel style/finish with the lighter colors slightly better.
But I like the OEM Chrome trim pieces just the way they are and wanted red calipers, so Chrome was my choice. I would have seriously considered the machine faced base wheel if it had a black interior with a polished machine face. I will be looking at the '15 machined faced wheels as a possible upgrade.
Edit: But then again I am 70!

I have a crystal red vert that I bought from Kerbeck and had shipped. I didn't want chrome rims but had to settle for them at +$1,995. Now I'm really glad I did. They really set the crystal red off nicely. I think you'll find lots of people on this forum have them and agree with me.
