I've changed my opinion on the grill braces
At first before I got the car I really thought it looked stupid and wanted to cover it up with black, then I did a very scientific poll and asked everybody that looked at the car what they thought.
Universally I didn't have one person tell me they didn't like it. Then I started to look at it more and decided it really was a rather nice accent piece on the car and I didn't hate it. I wouldn't say it is my favorite feature but I do think it breaks up the front of the car some and gives it a little more personality.
Honestly I am waiting for ACS to release their grill and that will probably be what I install but I think for now I am leaving my car with the braces alone.

I guess we're starting a do you or do you not like the strip....
Don't like it....possibly works on a blade silver car, but that's it....
Oh yeah, IMO....
Body color for me:

Online polls have revealed far different results when it comes to the chrome brace.
But hey, we're human, we have the ability to think for ourselves and the ability to like what we like. Some like it, some don't. I personally don't like it, but do think you'll be making a great choice with the ACS grille. At first I wanted the Z06 grille, then after looking at it more and more, the vents in it are pretty basic. Certainly better than the stock grille, but, it got a little boring to look at. To me, they kinds of look like cheap add-on vents. The ACS grille is just a little flashier and a little edgier that I think ties in better to the edgy lines found on most of the car.
The other thing that scared me about the Z06 grille is the mesh. It's a mostly wide open mesh that A. will allow you see everything behind the grille very clearly and B. won't offer much protection from road debris. So I think the ACS grille will not only look better, will offer better protection as well.
And the final straw for me was, I don't want to be a copy cat and try to be something I'm not by adding a Z06 grille to a base model car. I like the idea of being different, but without trying to pretend I'm something that I'm not. So again, the ACS grille I think fits the bill perfectly. And no, I don't work for ACS!! LOL

Own and drive your car...not the car someone else says they like. I'm glad you figured out what you like. That's why I used vinyl at first...gave me a chance to evaluate my preferences. But I really like it blacked out with carbon flash and if I was going to keep this grille, I'd eventually paint the chrome strip in carbon flash. However, I'll have my Z06 grille soon and can't wait to put it on instead!

My scientific poll was stated this way.
"I hate that chrome strip what do you think?"
Everybody loved it....weird I thought.
But it is growing on me, I have Arctic White and it does accent the front well.

One of the advantages of a front plate state is that the aero-panel covers the center third of the "braces". I was going to black it out but there is not enough showing now to bother with it.

I just picked up my AW Vette. This weekend. I think the grill looks good in both chrome and black. I think the chrome strip breaks up the large grill and looks good.

Right from the start there were 2 things I did not like with the intro of the C7 early in 2013. You know what they are, the tail lights and the grille. I now view the tail lights in the overall context of the rear of the car and have grown to really like the look.
I think I am also more tolerant of the grille bar but my mind still tells me it wants to see the whole area blacked out. I actually did black mine out with an easily reversible method to live with it for a while before committing. I will likely stick with it.

I've always liked the chrome strip in the grill. Giving it a name, such as "retainer" starts a unappealing factor and people follow like lemmings using that description.. Just like the Camaro taillight hysteria and the crash test dummy competition seat kerfuffle. I've always liked the C1's grills too.

I actually thought it looked like a retainer...
Yep...it looks like retainer.
If one likes the look, one should keep it. If one doesn't, one can change it. I mean, if you own a C7, feel free to do whatever your heart desires.

I've had a few people tell me they didn't like it.
I've had nobody tell me they did like it, but I'm guessing they didn't say anything because they didn't NOT like it.
I've had one person tell me to paint it black, in which I replied: "Scrape together $52K. Go buy a C7. Paint the strip black."

I didn't like it until I put my front plate on. I think having the front plate breaks it up enough to make it work.

I like it. When I look at the grille, I get a sense that its styling may have been somewhat influenced by the C1 grilles. I've heard where some say the C7 strip was more a take off from early C3's thin chrome bumper, but the overall C7 grille itself makes me think of C1 as '58-'62 looks like it's wearing a retainer too.

But if you have to run with one, then that's what you have to do. Glad I live in a one plate state!
