Default 7 Speed vs 8 Speed Auto

My last 4 vets have been manuals. I am seriously considering trading in my 08 Zo6 for a 2015 Z51. I am wondering how many of you are opting out for the auto over the stick. I understand the auto will be the 8 speed. I am willing to go out of my comfort zone and consider the auto. Would I be disappointed doing this being my last 4 vets were sticks?

Tired of shifting?

This seems like something only you can decide.

I don't think anyone who's a fan of auto transmissions will be disappointed with the 8 speed trans in the 2015, but as jerryv said, how much do you like to have complete control over the shifting? There are some Corvette purists who'd choose the stick over the auto regardless of how well the auto performs.

I have a 12 CTS-V A6 and a 10GS 6spd manual coupe, both daily drivers. I take the CTS-V three or four times for every time I take the GS. I'm planning to eventually consolidate to one daily driver, a C7 Z06 A8. I'm about at the end of my manual shifting days. If the A8 lives up to it's dual clutch comparable performance billing, I'll be all in for modern tranny technology.

Unless you track your car a lot, or just prefer manual shifting, there's nothing wrong with either the A6 or upcoming A8. I occasionally tracked my C6 with A6 and had no problems with it. There are reasons that more than 50% of all Vettes sold for many years have had an auto trans. Not sure about the C7, but I suspect that's still the case.

You can (paddle) shift with the 8 spd.

This has come up a lot before. Usually draws a lot of fire. For me (I've had my car about three weeks) can't imagine having a car like this and not shifting gears. Paddle woldn't do it for me. But that's JMHO.

Probably.

It's not the same car with an automatic. Similar, but not the same.

My C7 is a 7 speed manual. I will be trading it for an 8 speed Z06. Drove a 911 recently with PDK paddle shift, I totally enjoyed it.

My last four Vette's were manuals and I loved them. My C7 would be a manual if not for a bum knee courtesy of our friends in Viet Nam. So I'll be getting the automatic.

Having said that I have no doubt that any Vette I drove with a manual transmission would be SLOWER than an automatic. It takes great skill to drive a manual "fast". And I'm no race track hero. So while it may not be as fun, I know I'll be faster.

Default auto trans

had stick on most of my vettes (7). the last one is a-6 and love it. paddle shift is more enjoyable than shifting to me. down shift with the paddles and it's awsome. driving in new Jersey is an experience. traffic, pot holes, people texting, talking on the phones makes driving a real experience. no way i want a stick again while sitting in traffic for 2 hours or more.
