I could be a bit biased, but everything I've seen written about the R8 leads me to believe that Audi does not build the best handling cars. If a good handling car is your top priority, then the C7 may be an improvement over the R8, especially if cost is factored in.

Driving one is probably the only way you'll be able to determine this for yourself, and I would be sure to make it a Z51 since there is a pretty big difference between it and the base car.

Not true of the R8. The engine is behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle. This is way different they usual Audi stuff with the engine up front and way over the front axle.

Secondly, the 4wd is rear biased. Much different than the understeer you gen in the rest of the Audi cars.

It's hard to find fault in the R8 V10, especially when you can get it in manual.

Buy a C7, but keep the R8; this way, you have the best of both worlds

Agreed.

If you are going to give up the R8 Spyder for a new Vette. At Least get the new Z06 Vert!! You will still attract alot of attention with the Z06 Vert.. and it will be a MUCH faster car.

I personally don't like the Volkswagens.
So I would go for the Vette.
Plus then you can be an American Again.

I went out and test drive a R8 V10 and that thing SINGS! The exaust note is music to my ears, exhilarating! The dual clutch feels really good too. Now I need to find a decent Gallardo Spyder.

If you like the Vette 'vert, get it and pocket the loads of money. I really
don't think it's much of a downgrade...and it is the latest and greatest at least for the next year!

There is a reason why the R8 costs 1.5 to 2x as much as the Vettes. If you have not experienced one in person, you would not understand.

The interiors on the Audi's have been leading design standards for years. GM has been playing catch up for a long time in this regard. The subtle detail of the R8 pedals is just one of a hundred or so details that the average person cannot appreciate. Leather wrapped doors and dash and microfiber headliners? Audi has been doing it for more than a decade.

Motor technology? If you haven't heard a V8 quad-cam motor rev past 7k rpm.. you're missing something. Plus, that motor will last for well past 200k miles with minimal service.

Did you know that Audi's TPMS system not only reads internal air pressure, but also will tell you the tire temperature as well? This, since 2007.

Bang for the buck in overall performance. The vette wins though.

Loved the R8, just want the sexy lines of the Gallardos.

After I drove the R8 today I had a grin from ear to ear! I was afraid that when I got back in the my Z51 Coupe that I would be highly disappointed. Surprisingly enough it made me appreciate how awesome the C7 is. The only thing missing was a DCT and the sweet sound of the V10. Handling was just as good if not better in the C7, I felt more confident and the car was better planted in my C7 but that is possibly because I'm used to driving my C7.

Screw the Gallardo. The Hurrican is out, and this one has a hybrid carbon fiber tub and the V10 cranks out 600hp.

I would recommend a visit to http://www.exoticsracing.com/ in Las Vegas. I went there last Saturday to test drive the R8, C7, and a Porsche Turbo S. My favorite of the three was the R8. The one thing that held back the C7 was its auto trans. Too much lag for my taste. I'm going to the Bondurant school at the end of June to try a manual C7.

I am going off what I have read on comparison tests, and I remember Randy Pobst complaining mightily of severe understeer in the R8. Just because it's mid-engine doesn't mean it's going to handle.

I actually found that the R8 turned in more quickly than the Corvette. Corvette had more grunt down the straight.

Then you would know better than me. I haven't driven either the C7 or the R8. I just know what I've read.

The only question I would have would be, were both cars stock and was the C7 a Z51? Also, quick turn in doesn't necessarily mean it's going to corner faster if you have trouble catching it, if you know what I mean.
