Corvette Convertibles in Low Demand
#41
Just because 1 convertible sat on a lot in Florida for a month or 2 does not lead to the general conclusion that convertibles demand has nothing to do with the climate. I'm sure a convertible sold in 2 days somewhere in the Northeast. That doesn't mean convertibles sell fast in the Northeast either. You can't make a determination on a sample size of 1.
There must be other factors contributing to why the car has been there 2 months.

Also, even though only 26% of c7s built have been convertibles, they are far and away the majority sitting on the huge dealers lots.

I'm saying that local demand has been low . If I ordered my car as a convertible I would have been driving for a month. As it is I and a couple others won't be getting the 2014 coupes that we ordered.

A lot in the Northeast may have less convertibles on it than those in Florida, but probably because they were delivered less in the first place.

It's amazing the difference in the noise level in the convertible with the top up, it is so much more quiet than the coupe. Just wait for the nicer weather, the convertibles will fly off the shelf.

I don't think most Corvette buyers place much value or decide whether to buy a coupe or convertible based on the differences in interior noise level when the top is up/on.

This is my 3 rd convertible, this new top from GM is great. The engineering is amazing and the detail is like nothing I have ever seen on a car. I like the look of both, but the auto latch roof system and rear cover got me and I think it is not to be missed. If I wanted the car as a primary daily driver I would maybe go w/ the hard top, but I have my pickup for that stuff.

I think the value is higher as a "classic" later is because less of them sold originally, therefore a bit more rare for collectors. People buy the style they enjoy and convertibles are a bit less desirable at first and therefore are worth more to collectors due to their 'rarity' later, IMHO. Not to mention they cost more up front.

I didn't like the Convertible as much, with the loss of the Vents and the Well designed Rear window the Convertible just looses all that makes the C7 so good looking. IMHO.
Plus having a removable roof panel works nearly as good for enjoying a sunny day.
I usually don't like the look of Convertibles when the top is up and when the top was down my wife and I both said "Looks Like the C5/C6 rear end..."

The coupe might "look" better, but the convertible "feels" better--nothing beats the open air feeling one gets in a convertible.

Corvette Convertibles in low demand
I solved that problem this time around --I bought a Coupe and was conned into Buying a Convertible by a couple of my GM Friends.
I will say this and I was really surprised and as it was mentioned earlier the Convertible with the top up is MUCH QUIETER then the Coupe.
Also coming soon is a GM Wind Deflector which looks great and is not BULKY........Harvey.......

Aftermarket should be able to make a aux hard top that looks like the coupe. Including a functional rear hatch, if the trunk lid was removed. Also including the same coupe removable top.
Might take some ingenuity but I suspect it could be do-able.

In a way, you are probably right. However, spend a little time over on the C6 forum and you will read thread after thread of people trying to reduce the noise in that car. I just sold my Carlisle Blue C6 coupe. Loved the car but would have definitely appreciated a bit less noise in the cabin. If the C7 vert is a quiet as they say, I'll be a happy owner...

In the world of classic cars, a convertible with a manual transmission is worth more than the same vehicle not a vert and/or not a manual transmission, if condition and mileage are at all similar.

That will follow through too with the C7 in the future. The new coupe is just a novelty right now . When the newness wears off there will be a lot of former convertible owners coming back. You can count on it ! A real sports car has always been a drop top with a manual transmission.

I have a C-7 vert and it doesn't look like a C-6. I don't have round tail lights.
