Default GT seat and Competition seat in same car (pics)

I just converted my Gt seat into a competition seat and here is the comparison photos of the seats installed in the same car. I will be doing a full how to thread for anybody that is interested. I will be converting the left seat later this week.

Also notice the bolster side by side.

Nice pics. Thanks for comparing them side by side installed. Love my Comp Seats!

Very nice! This was inevitable! It looks like you only changed the seat backs and not the bottom skin/foam. That saves a bit of money and probably retains a bit of the GT seat comfort as far as the butt is concerned. I do find my comp seats very comfortable though. Did you do the conversion yourself? I've been contemplating getting the suede insert covers for my comp seats but figured the install would be a nightmare and most certainly the job for a qualified upholstery shop. Looking forward to your instructions!

If I may ask, how much did it cost per seat and/or for the pair? Assuming that you just purchased parts and you are doing it yourself, so no labor cost is involved.

Are the comp seats really that much taller than the others, or is it just adjusted differently?

You are correct, I left the stock GT base covers and base foam, which saved me almost 1000.00 in parts. My thought also was to leave the softer base foam for added comfort. I can now say the the foam is slightly harder on the Comp seats.

I did the conversion myself and it took me about 3-4 hours but I was shooting photos for the how to thread and I had no idea what I was doing.

I will post a price list and a parts list on my how to thread in a couple of days. I need to edit the photos.

Good to know. I may have to revisit the suede insert seat covers then. Are the bottom covers held on by hog rings?

This is fantastic!!!

I'm very much looking forward to your "how to" photos as this is something I intend to do myself.

Where did you get the parts for the conversion?

I just went and messed with it and they are the same height and the plastics seat backs are the same overall height. The seats were not adjusted equally in the pics.

I checked when I converted the left side seat last night and there are no hog rings and the lower cover appears to unhook from the back and slide off the the front side of the seat.

Thats great to know. I'm seriously considering the switch to suede inserts and that makes it much easier as I wouldn't meed any special tools!

I hate to say it but, I see so few differences between the seats, I am not sure I would do this conversion. I have Sparco race seats in my M3 and while I do like they they are also very firm for long drives.

thanks for doing the DYI, very good documentation to have.

Great side by side comparison.

This helps me make up my mind-completion seats look much nicer, but for me not worth the 2k premium. But if you are able and willing to do what you did, it is more than worth it.

Thank you for an excellent post.

Or . . . wait for the comp seats to show up in a salvage yard near you.

Or . . . arrange a comp for GT seat trade via Corvette Forum.

(That's not to say that this thread and the how-to weren't great to read, and that you didn't find this a worthwhile project.)

Thank you for the pics. Is there any difference in just the seat backs between the two. Specifically are the comps seats thinner or deeper back in, giving you a bit more leg room and away from steering wheel?
