Default M7 Z51 transmission temperature

Z51 M7 and I get a temperature of 230 degrees on the transmission fluid temperature after running in 7th at 85 for about 45 minutes. Temperature drops off to 220 when in town and shifting. Any one know the operating temperature for the transmission when the Z51 cooling system kicks in?

Coolant temperature runs 220 and the oil temperature runs 225 at 80 ambient OAT.

I would never have imagined the manual would get that warm. My A6 hasn't seen those temps, and I would have thought the automatic would run hotter.

the manual only mentions it will alarm at 270 degrees and that you are to let it cool down to 230 before driving further. i am aware that all operating temperatures have climbed higher and higher in the past decade and that the oil viscosity is at its peak when the oil temperature is at the 220 degrees. old school mechanics would have said the engine would not last a week with those temperatures thinking the oil is boiling, which with the new synthetics, it is not close to boiling. NASCAR runs even higher temperatures at 8700 RPMS constantly for 500 miles.

the Z51 has its own cooling system for the transmission or trans-axle if you will.

My C5 gave me a warning about temperature - just before the differential seized. I think you might have a problem.

So what's the problem? He doesn't have a C5? 230 is certainly not a problem on the C7..

The arrangement of the transmission and differential are virtually identical and what happened on my car was the heat of the failing differential was being transmitted into the transmission. Given that there have been C7s delivered with insufficient lube in the diff, I would check it out if it were mine.

Just trying to be helpful.
