Default Price on used 2014 C7 when Z06 comes out

Hey guys,

I am getting closer and closer to getting a c6 because I don't want to spend the money on a C7 right now. However, to put the nail on the coffin for considering the c7 I wanted to know what you guys thought I could get a used c7 for in the winter of 2014 (january 2015) once the Z06 is released. Was thinking of a 2LT. Z51 is an option, but not required.

I was thinking under 30K miles.

Thanks.

Generally, used Base and Z51 buyers are a different group than new Z06 buyers. So, the release of the Z06 should have no impact on resale values of the used 2014 and 2015s.

Predicting resale values at this stage is difficult.

Prospective used C7 buyers will generally guess at a lower resale value than C7 owners, since that would benefit them, and vice versa.

Pretty much agree with this.
Expect a ~15% drop plus or minus a few percent based on market demand and the fact that GM not only raised the price of the '14 mid-model year, but may increase in '15 as well.
But putting an exact figure on it is pretty much guessing at this point.

25%.
Supplier discount is 10%. Trade in on my brand new car will be several thousand below that. Plus a year older model, plus mileage. Exception could be SoCal, but expect to pay about 20% of MSRP. Trade at 25%.

Just my guess. I bought an '07 Shelby early on and made money by selling early on so who knows... My thoughts are with more dealers taking discounts coming up, these prices will drop.

The huge discounts that were predicted to hit in spring have turned out to be a fallacy and GM sold over 3400 C7's in March. I wouldn't expect any widespread discounts of more than a couple of thousand dollars, and even then, it seems the discounts are usually on base (non-Z51) cars.

I wonder... did the mid-season price increase reduce the depreciation of the first batch, or increase the depreciation of the newer ones? I guess time will tell.

I don't recall many predictions of huge spring discounts but once the 2015's are available I find to hard to believe the 2014's won't take a hit considering they will be a year old with newer models available. My guess 5-10% reduction depending on model and options. New models from the competition including MB and Lexus performance cars could impact sales as well. Chart monthly sales and average lot time for trends, if lot time continues to climb then prices should fall accordingly.

25% is good. Is that really possible?

I suspect that the Z06 will just cause a higher demand for the Stingray, people who can't get into a C7Z will naturally want the next best thing Z51, so that will create a demand for our cars which really I couldn't care less about seeing as how I don't plan on selling mine for the next while anyways.

In short, I don't think the C7Z will cause a drop in used C7 prices.

FWIW, I bought a new 2006 Mustang GT and had a HELL of time selling it 13 months later with only 13K on it. I finally had to take a $2K loss to unload it. And this was no base model

30,000 Miles? Most will have under 10,000 Miles and that's being generous. Had mine three Months and haven't cracked 2,000 yet.

I would assume that most C7's aren't Daily Drivers, so I'm sure you could pickup a gently used low mileage one for a reasonable price, especially of the owner wanted to upgrade to a Z06.

In case you haven't noticed, many of us are pretty manic about taking care of our Cars.

With the recent Price Increase, today the MSRP on my C7 would be about $69,000. I would hope that I could get around $60,000 for it the end of this year if I decided to sell it. That includes $1,000 plus in cosmetic Mods. Time will tell.

Huh - 1,000 miles a month is pretty heavy use if you expect anything to retain value. Also, are you trying to suggest a used 2006 Mustang GT, that is not a Shelby shouldn't have lost a fair bit of resale value in 13 months?

As soon as the C6 Z06 was announced those people that had to have it were dumping the C6 Z51 to get the latest and greatest. This caused a glut of C6 Z51 models in the used market. I predict the same for the C7 Z51.

To be fair, It was a Mustang - The value on those things has always dropped like a rock - I'm shocked the Camaro didn't drop as much as I thought it would by now (similar to Mustangs) and I dunno how the V8 Mopars are staying as high as they are!

I'm hoping the Z06 creates a glut of gently used 7spd 2LT Z51s to choose from (Night Race Blue please) but the hype for this car is nuts and still holding up.....I'm kinda pissed the dealers are ordering so many base models for walk ins though. I don't see the price REALLY dropping for another year sadly (for me)

I seriously doubt if the z06 will have much of an impact in resale values at all for the first few years.

Once the 2-3 year old c7z's start hitting the used car market at 50-60% MSRP, that is when you will see an impact on the 0-1 year old C7 stingray values.

Every attempt should be made to limit your mileage so that the next owner can enjoy the car...

That is a sensible argument...discounts WILL be available.

Ok, now that there is news of a A8 is being released for the 2015 models, if it is true how do you suspect the first year C7 models will fair for resale? Do you think I could get a 2LT for 49K?
