Default Any idea what this could be?

So my new baby arrived yesterday. When I turn the wheel about three quarters or more in either direction, the front wheels feel like they are going to fall off. The first time it happened, I thought I ran over something and dismissed it. Then when I got home, I tried it again with the wheel turned in both directions and sure enough, it happened again. I though the wheels were rubbing something but I ruled that out. FWIW, the car has the Z5 option. I am waiting for the dealer to call me back with his answer. Thank you very much.

All Z51's do this--it's called wheel hop or wheel chatter.

Totally normal and addressed in this forum dozens and dozens of times...even explained in the owners manual.

Nothing to worry about!

Default Wheel Hop

'Normal'.... worse when tires are cold.... Product of wide tires and the steering geometry. Also typical on Z51 and GS C6 cars.
P.S. The wheels will not 'fall off'.

Default wheel hop

I think most of us had the same question when we first got in the car.
and turned it hard for the first time. Very disconcerting but "normal"

Yup, I always get it when I turn around in my driveway. Also got it on my C6.

While I very much appreciate all the answers so far, I am very familiar with tire chatter, wheel hop, crow hop etc.....but that usually applies to the rear wheels because they can not turn while the fronts can so in a slow tight turn the rears "hop" or "chatter"..... But I never heard of the fronts doing this....any experts out there?

You're mistaken. It's the front tires, not the rears. The reason for the chatter that numerous guys have given you is correct.

The owners manual clearly points out its the front tires and normal. Many have posted that here also. Its the fronts, the colder it is the more noticeable it is.

Once again, thank you for all the replies. I stand corrected, even though I read the chatter paragraph in the manual...I still thought it applied only to the rears...thank you very much for a great community

My new Z51 does this and so did my C6. It is the "Ackerman Effect."

Now that you know it's normal, I have one comment to make.

YOU CAR IS FRIGGEN BEAUTIFUL!! I love the black top with the stinger stripe and the carbon flash mirrors and spoiler. First time I have seen that color combo on the convertible and I absolutely love it! Congrats and enjoy it in good health!
