I don't think they can "lawfully " give someone a ticket for a car registered in a different state. The problem is that who is going to go back to fight it. It's all about making money.

"No letter or number can be obstructed by any clear or smoke colored shield. If there is any frame work around the license plate it has to be able to still clearly show all the letters and all the numbers. If you're driving around with a frame that even slightly covers the name of your state then you are in violation and could end up paying a $133 ticket. No out of state vehicles will be spared."
This was reinforced by my friend who works with the drug enforcement task force that often operates on I95 with 4 or 5 unmarked vehicles. As he said, it gives them a valid reason to stop a car! Also believe you’re correct-it is a money maker!

Interesting, can you get a good ground plane on a plastic car? I heard that years ago it was hard to set up on a Corvette. I've been out of Ham radio for way too many years, though. New kinds of antennas take care of that kind of stuff now? (I need to at least get my Technician license back again...)

Man, I can't believe how many shots of C7 butts show dirty exhaust tips!

Here's mine (and the front plate as well - Texas has gotten really tough on no front plate, especially DPS on toll roads which I drive daily).
Rear frame - Cruiser Accessories Perimeter Frame & Fastener Caps:
Front Plate - Pilot Automotive Soft Urethane & Cruiser Fastener Caps:
Fortunately, the aero plate mount does not look too bad. Much better than the C5 and C6 mounts:

I have not found exactly the frame I want yet. I prefer something very subtle and minimal. I spotted a black plastic frame at AutoZone for around $5 and bought it to use until I find the right one for me. Since the rear fascia only has two mounting holes, I did not want to put screws on the bottom holes of the plate and frame because I was concerned that the end of those screws would rub on the carbon flash painted fascia (I know it is behind the plate and I will be the only one to know it is there). Since the frame is plastic, I took a Dremel tool and cut the bottom screw holes off the frame. This is temporary, but will do until I find the right frame.

I found the Pilot Automotive flexible frame at Pep Boys and the Cruiser Accessories at AutoZone. You can find both Pilot Automotive and Cruiser Accessories online and use their dealer locator or order direct - just use Google (can't post links to commercial sites - against forum rules).

Only the rubber grommet will touch the paint. With the top fasteners securely tightened, the plate will not move at all. This (along with fastener caps) are what I used on my rear plate - see photo above.
