The $52,000 Fantasy Gone
The original base price of a C7 (LT1 non-Z51) really caught my attention at $52,000. Wow, what a deal! The trouble is, almost every single C7 that I have seen here in Canada so far has been a Z51 LT2 or better which cost $65+. I doubt think that many, if any of the $52,000 cars were ever built and sold here.
Now that the time is coming when dealers might actually order a "base" car for you, well, GM has jacked up the price (recent press articles on $2000 increase). Sadly, the $52,000 C7 was just a fantasy, a nice one while it lasted, but in the end just a fantasy.

Dealers make a lot of money off of options. I know the Canadians only got a certain amount of Corvettes. So the dealers are going to maximize their opportunity to make money....hence the optioned out cars that you have seen. You can't blame them. As the above poster said, there are many here in the US....but I know that doesn't help you.

GM is in business to make money and satisfy stockholders. What do you expect? Capitalism, which allowed all of this to happen, is capitalism after all. New Corvettes sit sit on the lot for an average of 5 days. In other words, there is no reason to offer price incentives. At $70,000 the new Corvette is still the best sportscar bargain there is.

Most of us are delighted that the C7 is being well received from the normal vette enthusiasts and this time around, tons of crossover buyers from other brands. Main reasons are likely the very eye catching futuristic look, coupled with the big technical and interior improvements. It's not unexpected with the big demand, that the price has gone up some ( not a huge amount, as it's only $2000 and $ 1200 more for the Z51 package). The C7 is still a fabulous value. If one's budget can't handle the increased cost, buy a Camaro.

I'm sorry, I see your point too, he does seem to be complaining about the $2,000 price increase also.

If history is any indication, eventually there will be an overstock situation and they'll be discounting unsold car on the lot. I got my first Vette at 7,000 off a sticker of $33,000 without even negotiating.

No this won't work for him. He's in CANADA and can't buy it.

So far GM Canada has not announced a price increase actually, so we might get lucky on this one. But even if they do, it'll still be a smokin good deal, because the MRSP on a 2013 up here was $60,000 CDN, but yet the 2014 base price dropped to under $53,000! So even if they raised the price by $7000 (which I doubt they would) we're still getting a bargain! In fact, I don't think you could buy a new Corvette up here for under $60,000 since the era of the C4!

I agree with what you say, but this is not a GM issue, it is a Canadian dealer issue. His complaint is because Canadian dealers ordered very few basic cars. I'm sure that GM would have preferred that all dealers order less Z51s [supply problems].
I'm sorry, I see your point too, he does seem to be complaining about the $2,000 price increase also.

The dealers ordered the Corvettes that they thought they could sell. The fact that the cars remain on their lots no more than 5 days means that the dealers made smart choices.
If you want a base Corvette, then you may order one if no dealer in your region has any in stock. Why is this such a difficult concept?

But you can't order one right now up here. From what I've heard there aren't any allocations at all at any of the dealers up here, even Canada's largest Corvette dealer has none! So Canadians have to rely on what is in stock at dealers, and from what I can see online, none of them are ordering 1LT models at all, they are all loaded up cars.

Interesting tidbit - lol the dealership I got it from bought at least 1 new C7 (that I know of) off of another Canadian dealer at MSRP just because they knew they can sell it for MSRP + a markup, after their allocation sold out.
