comparisons with other MYs is difficult. e.g., 1) in the middle of the production cycle, they announce the 2015 model, with some significant improvements/betterments (forward looking camera, supercharger option, et al.), pushing some buyers to wait another year to see what really comes out, 2) major production problems--mid term, 3) new head of gm in the midst of things--with concomitant philosophy changes re: the entire product line--maybe no consequence, but at best difficult to evaluate, 4) company becomes privately owned again, with what had to be major internal disruptions--again=good or bad?
my only point being this is hardly a ceteris paribus situation, rendering month to month comparisons to prior years a less than perfect predictor.

also, as some of you know, "it aint over til the fat lady sings". since she passed away in 1986, she can not sing anymore. does that mean it will never be over?

Huh?

GM produced 40,561 Corvettes in 2007, but only sold 33,684.

Based upon VIN numbers in this thread, and mine (16412 produced on 2/21), BG is producing about 150 cars/day. BTW, my salesman at Les Stanford suspects that sales of MY2014 will be cut around Mid-May because of so many orders in the pipeline which will allow for MY2015 to actually be in production and delivering cars by the end of Aug. By late next month, we should know more about the 2015 content and maybe prices...I would not be surprised by a 1%-3% increase.

Apples and Oranges, one figure is based on a actual 2007 Jan-Dec calendar year and the other is based on a corvette 2007 model year. A large number of 2007's were produced and sold in the 2006 calendar year so did not fall in the 2007 calendar year.

What really matters is how the Vette does vs it's competitors within the market segment since the C7 came out, not how it did against other Corvette generations during completely different economical climates.

Then why are you stating that GM needs "to average around 5,000 a month for the next six months" (while the C7 is 6 months into sales/deliveries) if this is based on 2007 model year and not a 12-month calendar year?

The success of the C7 will not be judged on how well is sells compared to pre-recession Corvettes, IMO. It's a different world than it was in 2007.

I said that based on what someone else had posted as an estimate that were built in the first 6 months and I estimated roughly what they would need to average over the next 6 months to match or exceed the 2007 model years total sales.

I have been driving vettes since I was 17 years old in the early sixties and have owned around 25 of them during that time and have seen eseven other recession events come and go and never have I seen the huge drop in corvette sales that has occurred starting in 2009.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the car RELEASED in September, from what I remember they started BUILDING cars in July so in reality they have been building them for nearly nine months.

The car is selling really well and I'm glad. It needs to be a big hit in order to ensure that GM keeps making Corvettes. During a brutal winter and mediocre at best economy the car has done well. Expect it to sell even more as we get into Spring.

"Most" smokers spend 12K on cigarettes a year? Wow, that's roughly $33/day. At $6.00 per pack, that's a 5+ pack a day smoker. I'm glad I don't smoke.

They started building VIN 20000 and up during week of 3/24, so they are up to about 22,000 built by now.

My understanding from looking at a BG you-tube video and interview from a plant supervisor that the daily output was to be 120-150 and no more and that they were not bringing on line another shift of workers to increase production !!!! Wayne

# Weeks of production from approx. 9/1/2013 - 4/18/14 = 32
Cars/day 120+/-
Car/week 720 (6 day week?)
720/week x 32 weeks = 23,000 cars built +/-. Except, I think production was slower the first couple months, so there have been about 22,000 built so far.
If you car was built 8 weeks ago, then the 15,000 - 16,000 range sounds about right.

Not exactly. The two premier editions (coupe and convertible version) have their own VINs with a last 5 digits of 00001 to 00500 for each version. The 12th digit is "1" for "normal" production. The special editions have a different number in this position. See Decoding a C7 VIN.

Correct, I had not considered the Premier Editions.

However, since his car is the 15,658th "non-Premier" car built, his 13th digit is also a 1, since it is the first digit in number fifteen thousand.
