Went black, going back
I ordered my TR convertible with the black Z51 wheels. Never cared much for black wheels and never had any black wheels unless a hub cab fell off, but black wheels with torch red seemed a good fit.
I saw my first 2014 Stingray Coupe in person at Barrett Jackson, January 2013 and it was TR with black wheels. I really started to like that combo. Once I took delivery of mine on 12/13/13, I immediately started to have mixed thoughts on the black wheel decision.
Of course, most all of my younger friends love the look and even my wife likes the black wheels. But after many weeks of torment, I decided to go back. This week I'm putting on silver Z51 wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's. Now, I'm wondering if I'll ever go back to black.

I think the black rims are HOT!
It may be a generational thing as you stated. Don't know your age, but yes many do love the black rims. I too had never thought they looked great on a car until I saw them on C7.
Can't wait for my C7 (black, black, black rims) to arrive.
Post the after pics...one has to be happy, so glad it worked out for you.

I saw two TR's in the same showroom, one with silver wheels the other with black wheels. Seeing them side by side I definitely thought the black wheels went much better, just my opinion tho. I'm 34 FWIW

I went black for the first time, I am 48, not really been my preferred color in the past for my wheels but hopefully I will like them on my NRB vert when she is built.

I ordered my LB coupe with the base silver wheels as I had plans to have them powder coated Comp Grey when I received 'em. However now that I've had a chance to see how they look on the car, I am probably going to leave them alone

I should have it first week in April, so I will certainly come out to Boerne--I'll look up the event. Thanks for heads-up.

I went with the standard Z51 Silver wheels. I love the Yellow with Black wheels but it just isn't me. I went Cyber Grey with standard Silver. I think the dark paint with the Black wheels is to dark, nothing pops.

I was originally going to order mine with the black Z51 rims, but that was because I'd misread the "black aluminum" description thinking it was some kind of gunmetal-ish finish instead of just gloss black. I changed the order to the silver rims and plan on getting them painted carbon flash at some point. (This will be on a night race blue Z51).

Agree - it's heavily influenced by what you saw as a kid and considered cool. I'm 53. Gotta have chrome. I love the black wheels. Think the chrome looks better but that's because that is what I grew up lusting after as a kid.
So "young" and really hip old guys can have the black....chrome for me.
Love the variety though...imagine if all wheels were black, or silver, or chrome.
They all look good.

Your Laguna Blue is just awesome with silver wheels. Today, you'll see bright silver paint as standard on many luxury and exotic cars so I don't consider silver paint as inferior to anything. Even my 2007 atomic orange pace car came with sterling silver painted wheels.

Black is OK, but it does not show off the details of the wheel.
Chrome is more for show and makes the car look less "serious".
I had the factory painted wheels on my 2004 Z06, and I still like the aluminum or silver painted wheels the best.

I too ordered black, but later decided to go silver with the Forgestars. They all look good and its all in the eyes of the owner.
I must say that in pictures Silver seems to almost always look better than black. In real life black looks really good too.
