Trade in C6Z for a C7?
This C7 is growing on me. My 2006 z06 still has a loan but I can trade it in and it should net positive for down payment . Should I trade my 2006 z06 in for a brand new black on black C7 MSRP 52,990 base 1LT M7 or I wait to pay off my z06 and trade it in for a new Z06 in couple years?
My z06 has 58k miles. Yellow... CAI and may get it tuned soon. Dynoed 458 rwhp bone stock. Should be more with CAI and tune. I really want a brand new car because of my Z is showing age. It is slower but I like the launch control on C7.
Anyone has driven a base 1LT base 7 speeds manual without Z51?

I'm starting to finally open up my C7 (I put on different tires), the speed is awesome, although probably not as fast as a C6Z, it will out handle it and interior/exterior is heads and tails better. I like the Z but there's no way I'd take one over a C7 (Z51), YOMV.

C6 Z is a lighter car that any C7. Handling part is interesting part. I am looking at base C7 budget not Z51. Z06 is pretty good around the track and dry sump. It handles great for me. Interior on C7 is money. Any prove base C7 handles better old C6Z?

I have a 427 Vert that I wouldn't trade on a C7. So now I have a Z51 C7, too. Not sure I'd trade a C6Z on a base C7, but next year the C7Z is out. Then...........

Your best bet, is to wait for the C7 Z06 in a couple of years. If you make the move to the base C7, when the new Z hits the streets, you will be like all the rest of us vette junkies, wanting one like crazy. So do the smart thing( not an easy trick, being a vette junkie) and enjoy your C6Z for another 2 years and then make your move to the C7Z. Even though your Z is getting a little long in the tooth, it is an awesome street supercar( I had an 08Z, now have a 10GS with LPE supercharger package, and like other vette addicts, am waiting to make my move to a C7Z A8 in a couple of years). If you make the not best move, and replace your C6Z with the base C7, you will still move to the C7Z AND suffer the big depreciation by making the intermediate base C7 purchase. I know it's hard to sit on your hands and do nothing, but the base C7 move is a questionable move at best over a C6Z and I doubt you'll be happy in the long run.

I went through a similar dilemma coming out of a Grand Sport an decided on a 2LT Z51 MN7. If I had test driven one there would have been no debate. The c7 is different and better in so many ways it's mind blowing, and the numbers are not far from your Z in the torque dept. (460 vs 475). If you can afford one, get one. A Z51 is a must, than NPP, magnetic ride and 2LT in that order. The car is improved in so many ways, I am still blown away. Worry about the C7 Z06 in a few years...this C7 IS the Z06 of today compared to your C6...the rest is just marketing badges.

Wait for the new Z....You won't be happy with a base coming form a c6z imo...I think the base handling may be comparable to the z but I don't think its better but I haven't driven them...well not many average drivers would get close enough to the edge to know. imo
Pla down your z and get the c7z..(I wouldn't tune it unless you can take it out when you trade...) Just a suggestion.

Scraping the splitter.
There are a number of people who have traded or sold their C6 Z06's and bought C7's. I would recommend seeking them out on this forum and PM'ing them. IMO, getting opinions from people who a.) don't or never owned a C6 Z06 and, b.) don't own a C7 isn't going to be very productive.
I believe Turbooo2u is one of those owners.

And I 'think' ChuckZ06 had a C6 Z06 before his C7 as well.

I would test drive both the non-Z51 and Z51. I test drove the non-Z51and ended up buying it. I had the C6 Z51 Coupe....just a little harsh to me. I did not even bother to test drive the Z51. Other members may say different. To me, the base model was much more than what I thought it to be.

Why would you not want to get a C7 if you like it and can afford one, C6Z is an awesome car but lets face it its old news now. C7 is way better in my opinion

You may be in for a sticker shock when you find out what the base C7 Z06 at MSRP is going to cost. IMO, go for the C7 now, then try for a C7 Z06 much later when they will be more readily available and discounted, plus the resale value of the C7 will hold up much better then your C6Z06.
Good luck on what ever you decide to do!

Todays C7 Z51 is yesterdays C6 Z06...
465 torque vs 470 torque above 4000 rpm, 0 to 60 of 3.8 vs 3.6, better handling in spirited driving and more predictable at the limit, better interior, better technology, better looks IMHO.
Unless your budget let you get the new C7 Z06 (yesterdays ZR1) then a new C7 Z51 makes a lot of sense. Good luck with your decision.

Pay down your Z06 more, wait at least until you can afford something above the base level. I know it is tempting to scratch that itch, but I would hold off based on the information you have provided.

I sold my 09 Z06 in December privately in anticipation of my C7 and got really good money for it. I love my C7 and have absolutely no regrets. That said, if I were you I would sell the car private party and not trade it in as you will net substantially more for your car if it is well kept and has a clean title.
My car is a 2LT Z51 7 speed and not a 1LT non Z51 but I'd bet the difference in money you would receive from a private party sale would afford you some additional options. I would strongly encourage you to consider at the very least the 2LT option as it really adds some nice creature comforts and features for the cost. Either way, the C7 is a giant leap forward from the C6. The only place that the power difference is really noticeable (stock Z06 vs stock C7) is at the top of the RPM range under hard acceleration. The Z pulled a little bit longer. In my case, my Z06 was stock with exception of the Vararam I had on it.
My car sold through Craigslist to an out of state buyer who flew down and drove it home. I had it listed on the forum and CL. If you are feeling impatient, I could completely understand the desire to trade it in and bite the bullet but you are certainly leaving money on the table. Then again, I am also a very impatient person so I could totally relate as I've been and there done that before.

These threads blow my mind. If you cant decide on your own whether to make the trade then you probably shouldn't do it. Its a lot of money so its a big decision, one that should be made by you alone (and your family).

Make a list of items you believe will be better on a C7 than with your present Z06.
Add them up and then subtract the number of items you believe will be better with your Z06 vs a new C7 and divide into the price difference between a new C7 and your Z06.
That price difference should include all additional up front costs(such as sales tax, registration, title) you will have to pay to buy the C7 and the increases in annual taxes you pay(such as personal property tax on autos) and increases in insurance costs.
Only you can decide if the C7 is worth the additional cost.
