Trailer Hitch

Heck, I towed a 16 foot jet boat with my C3 and had a bike rack on my C4 that was installed via a trailer hitch mount. Being older (not necessarily wiser), I don't have any such thing on our C6 or C7, but that's more due to not being able to do those exciting things as much as I could before.
While it is a fantastic machine, the Vette is still just a car, something to enjoy doing what you want to do, not doing or not not doing what others think you should or should not do. I still don't wash and wax it every time I drive either one (they're our only mode of transportation), in fact they're very not to get detailed more than a few times a year.
To me, more power to the folks that use and fully enjoy these great cars for what they are intended for - that is, to enjoy doing what you want with a car that is capable of doing that and more.

Guys,
Thanks for the replys on both sides of this thread.I do want to purchase a C7 but only if I can get a hitch. After all this is just a car no matter the cost.My C5 was purchased with 2500 miles and 18 months old.The previous owner treated the car as though it was an infant.I on the other hand maintained it and kept it washed and polished but also enjoyed it.

Melting Slicks
I won't be putting a hitch on my C7, mostly because having 3 suv's at home, all with hitches, I don't see the need.
But, way back in the 1980's, before I could afford both a sporty car and an suv, I had trailer hitches on my: 1979 Trans-Am, 1982 Z28, 1985 Toyota Supra and 1988 Mustang GT. They were used for a bike rack (for my mountain bikes), to tow small trailers for my dirt bikes, jet skis and Laser sailboat.
I understand we all can't have a dedicated fleet of cars, and thus see nothing wrong with making a Corvette useful enough to own one.

2014 Corvette Trailer Hitch Link

The link is in my original post, Post #20 of this thread. For the unobservant:

Never the less, the reason I asked is because I find it utterly unbelievable that there is such a thing as a gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch for a Corvette. That site has to be way off base. Such hitches are used for large trailers that in no possible way could be pulled by a Corvette. I can't even imagine where the heck such a hitch would be mounted on a Corvette!

I expect if one exists, it will be a class I with the 1/2" drawbar, just like the ones the have for Mustangs.

That's not a link to a picture of that hitch type on a Corvette.

BTW, the type of trailer hitch required to tow a trailer is not determined by the size or mass of the trailer. It is determined by the design of the tongue. Gooseneck trailers are commonly larger trailers, but common is not a legal restriction.

My sincere apologies to those who may have miss interpreted my intentions.
Trailer hitches for a new style of car usually don't show up for a year or more, and therefor a custom hitch will be required at this time for C7s.
With the exhaust placed close together, and in the location where a hitch would usually appear, some creativity will be required. Just to give you some idea where to start; I will say that on my 2000 Trans/Am I fabricated a receiver type of hitch that was attached to the frame rails, and concealed behind my license plate. The license plate was attached with chrome wing nuts that could be quickly removed in order to slide in the draw bar.
I towed my 20 ft. Wellcraft, stern drive, cuddy cabin that weighed in at a little over 3500 lbs., on the trailer, with that set up. That car was rated for 100 lbs. tongue weight, and 1000 lbs. gross weight. I towed the boat for 3 years, and approx. 9000 miles without a single problem. The trailer did have brakes.

I got my hitch for my corvette from hitchweb.com, depending on the year you're needing it for you can search for it on their look up your vehicle on the site. It's pretty easy and they have really good deals on all their products
Hope this helps you out, and good luck!

Congratulations. You have earned a spot on my list.

A competent shop can do a custom hitch on virtually anything. A thousand or two pounds should be well within reason for a C7. Any more and it may be time to consider a different tow vehicle!
