Base car or Z51??
This should elicit some comments. After much consideration I ordered a base 2LT coupe with auto. Great choice. Although price on Z51 is very competitive, I can think of no reason to have it (UNLESS YOU TRACK THE CAR) or you just have lots of money. Many of the problems on the forum are with Z51 cars. My daily driver has never seen 6500 rpm because city streets don't support this. Paddle shifters provide plenty of entertainment and 450 h.p. is enough. OLD GUY having lots of fun.

The Z51 option is a real bargain at $2,800 for what you get. I expect this option price will go up for 2015 models. You don't need to be a track fan to enjoy all that this option provides.

For the average street driver the Z51 offers no real advantage. The C7 without the handling package is a smoother ride. It does offer better competitive high speed handling in a serpentine environment whether it be track or backroads. Like the OP why would I want a rougher ride, more expensive car for my uses. I did buy it off the showroom floor and it was a loaded up model with automatic, 3LT, 2 top option, Stingray carpets, door sills, carbon fiber dash, tuned exhaust, et. al. But, that is what I wanted and if I choose to play with a Mustang or whatever at a traffic light there are more than enough ponies except for the Shelby. Each to their own what works for me won't for another. We all buy what we want that's why there are options.

I had a C7 Z51 'vert on order, due for delivery March/April. When the constraints were announced, I cancelled the option. My car was built three months earlier, and I got it about a month ago.
I am basically a "cruiser," not a "track rat." My Corvettes have always been daily drivers, and until now, I've had 3 C5's and 3 C6's, all with Z51, Z06, or Grand Sport options.
With the C7, I do not miss those options at all. imho, Z51 is overkill for me, and this car is wonderful!

I hope you are not referring to me, sir. If you just take a quick look at my avatar I already have my C7 convertible. Our members should be able to test drive both.....just make an appointment. I did it and anyone else shouldn't be treated no different. Especially if you are a serious customer.

No worries--here in Austin it won't happen--and I'm a serious buyer.
They will not allow test drives, espcially of two different ones.
They don't have the inventory to do that--that's all I was saying.
That's why I pulled the trigger with out of town dealer and just hope I like it
