How much faster is the z51 over the nonz51
I have a AW 1lt z51 auto on order, but the same dealer just got a TR 2lt non z51 manual in basically for the same price as my ordered one. I am having a difficult time choosing between the two because I saw an arctic white c7 the other day and it didn't "Pop" as much as the red. Also I am probably never going to take the car to the track, Im using it as a daily driver and taking it the canyons on the weekends. But people are telling me the z51 is faster. Is the z51 noticeably faster in acceleration? My other concern is I dont know how to drive manual, do you think it will be hard learning? Also how much improved is the 2LT interior compared to the 1LT?
Thanks Guys!
EDIT.
There is also a Cyber Gray 2lt Auto non-z51 available (leaning toward this at the moment)

In my opinion you won't notice the difference as far as being faster acceleration wise. The Z51 would be more reliable on the track with better cooling, better brakes, electronic diff. I doubt you would know the difference. If you have never driven a standard you don't know what you are missing. You should try it before you buy and decide if you want that in your car. In my opinion the 2LT is not worth the money. You get heads up display, ability to adjust the seats a little more, and seat cover color on the console and arm rest. Is that worth $4K? Not to me. Bottom line, get what you want and are comfortable with. At this price point why compromise.

Driving a manual isn't difficult. I taught myself, it was interesting. Working the clutch is the biggest challenge, add some power and slowly let the clutch out without stalling the engine. Take a demo ride at a used car lot. Give the salesman a thrill.

A Z51 versus a non Z51 car should be the same in a 1/4 mile drag. But the automatic car will be quicker (drag race) especially considering no experience driving a manual transmission. the automatic you punch it and go. The Z51 package is primarily for road course racing

The auto vs. manual shouldn't even be part of the equation for the OP racing wise as he said he will not track the car. There is a gearing difference between the two however. While the auto might be quicker on the take off (depending on the driver of course) the auto has lower gearing vs. the manual and there is another difference in the Z51 vs. base car in gearing also. A track rat person in a manual should be able to overtake the auto driver in a drag race in the first 60 to a 100 feet of the race and never look back. With the higher gears in a manual car it makes up for some of the split seconds of shifting between 1st and 2nd and then 3rd gear. You won't need to go any further then 3rd gear because at that point you would have already crossed the quarter mile finish line.
That being said, IMO, the auto is very boring to drive. The idea behind a sports car is to drive it like one. You can not under any circumstances tell me that an auto is more fun using paddles to shift? Ah, no, I drove one and it was fun for about 5 seconds after that, it was just like driving any other car including a Prius of course with tons more speed but you get the idea. The bottom line is it's a personal choice as they say to each there own, that's just me giving you my .2 cents worth....

define faster.....
Higher top speed?
Quicker to 60?
Faster around the track?
Faster 1/4 mile?
Put it this way, GM says that the C7 does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds......they didn't use a non-Z51 to achieve that time.
