Default LT1 = Truck Engine?????

According to Edmunds Gilles, yes:

It sounds like you are describing a Corvette. We have no interest in becoming a Corvette because what is unique about the Viper is that engine is in nothing else. It is only in the Viper. We don't use an engine out of a truck or a passenger car and stick it in our sports car. It is unique to itself.

Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes.

Yes, sour grapes for sure. I'll take 460 HP, zero to 60 in 3.8 seconds and 29 MPG all day long.

Hmmmm. Chrysler put the Viper V-10 in a Pickup Truck some years back. I think they cost about $50,000 new.

I met a guy that bought a used one off Craigslist for about $15,000. It didn't have that many miles on it and it looked like new. I guess the previous owner didn't enjoy the MPG.

Before it went into the Viper. It was cast iron.

A variation of the LS motors were in every car available with a V8. The LT is the new LS. They have different bore, stroke, heads, cams, intakes, injectors, exhaust, etc etc. All truck vs vette really share is that they are small block chevys.

I think it is a pretty similar engine to what will be available in Chevy trucks soon. Does it really matter though? It's still a great engine clearly. The fact that it's similar to what they use in their trucks is part of the reason that the Corvette is able to offer such incredible performance for the money.

By having this engine offered across the GM line up it reduces cost, thus helping to keep Corvette cost lower. Gotta love that! Some people are just loaded with envy and anger. If Chrysler thought that they could sell that engine in a truck again it would be there. Or maybe it will show up it a Fiat 500.

Gilles is really starting to sound like a idiot. Please.... the viper engine not only saw duty in a pick up it also saw duty in iron form in Vans and heavy duty trucks years ago... Man is desperate

And the fact that they refer to it as a Dodge is just another dig...

I have a new motto for Fiat Motors

"Dodge! It's not just a car brand, it's a PR tactic!"

Yup. And it was basically an older-than-dirt Chrysler LA small block with two extra cylinders tacked on.

Correct info sir. The latest variant, the lt, is much closer to its truck brethren than even the ls engines were. They are now all aluminum. Same cylinder deactivation. Direct injection.
No dry sump on trucks that I know of. The 6.2 liter truck engine has almost same torque spec as lt1 engine and 425 hp. These are some of the best engines on the planet whether they are in trucks or cars.

So Ralph says that he doesn't want Viper to be Corvette. I wonder if the SRT selling dealers feel the same way.

Ralph declares "what is unique about Viper is that engine is in nothing else."

If things don't change soon for team Viper, that engine won't be in anything. Viper will die and go out of production.

Who cares, Ralph?? All that does is raises costs. If the engine brings a satisfying level of performance to the desired vehicle, I don't care what else it may be used in.

When a corp exec starts to directly knock a competitor it means they are in the final stages of desperation.
You can count on two things;
  1. That exec will be gone in less than a year
  2. That product will be gone soon after
