Why do you need 4 overdrive gears? I drove a 7-speed auto in a MB SLK, and found it tedious to drive in manual mode. On the freeway ..... need to pass ..... 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 ....... too late! You can't skip gears. My 2005 C6 had an A4 - in the mountains third was good for uphill, downhill. My 2012 C6 A6 ..... using engine braking on downhill ..... 6 - 5, too fast, 5 - 4 .... still too fast, 4 - 3 ..... good! Certainly don't need 2 more gears!!!
I do not see the big deal with an 8 speed. Why not 9 or 10 speeds? Some will say gas mileage. I did not buy a Vette for gas mileage.

At what point will the 8 speed become of use?
I know of a few Dodge owners that have the 8 speed auto and do not like it as it is always jumping in and out of 8.
I don't see it being used in 1/4 mile, road coursing or even daily driving, unless you travel 50 or more miles on the Autobahn.

I have perhaps the best 8 speed on the market, the ZF and it is constantly changing gears. It's fast and you barely notice it but I have to think that less is more when accelerating. I understand that more gears keep some engines in the power zone but this LT1 makes power for such a wide range that less gears uses the power better and spends less time changing. Hence te reason I did not hesitate to get the A6. Will be able to compare side by side as soon as the spring comes.

Scraping the splitter.
And a tune will void your warranty for those that are concerned about such things.

My best guess is that given the timeline announced for the Z06, that they just may not have enough to offer for the 2015 MY. I think, given what happened this year, the last thing they want is another constraint issue with something like the transmission. That would really create some back log in Bowling Green.

Faster shifts but more gears to go through. I am not sure what he performance delta will be for a car that has this amount of torque all over the tach. I would guess the mpg improvement would be more meaningful.

I hate to say it but I told you so. It makes perfect sense for GM to do this and keep the ZO6 a "Flagship car" and also to help ZO6 sales to go up. Let's face it, they make a bit more loot on an $85K car than a $65K one. Plus the new A6 has been re programed and is no slouch either.

seems some are intent on having an advantage over others. Relax and enjoy your ride.
The real winner is anyone that gets to own & drive Americas Corvette.
The transmission offering is moot.

I bought the car because it looks cool and love vettes . I'm probably like most buyers and didn't even know what kind of tranny was in the darn vehicle . wait if you want , that is your choice .
On another note , why all this talk of depreciation . Do you really buy a car with this in mind ? .
Good luck to everyone .....

Great news if GM is taking the time to get the A8 right, before releasing it for production. You do not want a half baked effort to contend with. If it takes another year or so to get the stingray version online after the Z06 development, that's not a problem. The A6 can soldier on in a reliable fashion, as it's had years of development. I will be getting a Z06 eventually, but I'm in no rush. I'm waiting till at least 2016 and hopefully 2017( if I can restrain myself) till I replace my 10 GS with LPE supercharger package with the A8 Z06.

I believe that GM and Ford are working together on a 10 speed auto. Personally, I’d think that there would be diminishing returns going from an 8 to a 10 speed auto, particularly when being driven by a high HP/torque engine. Don

I drove sticks for 34 yrs and don’t miss them. Was always short shifting my 5-speed Mustang GTs in traffic, what a thrill. Don

Amazing how the term haters has become so overused on these forums. Just say it how it is. You bought a 2014 A6 and your glad something better didn't come out in 2015. The new transmission coming out in 2015 would have been worse for everyone who already bought the automatic car, but better for everyone else.
Are you a '"hater" against the A8 transmission? Why not be real original? Throw in the term butthurt somewhere. I can't fathom why anyone would want the automatic unless they live in an extremely hilly area, drive almost exclusively in heavy traffic, or are disabled. IMO the manual is much more fun. However, there are those who really want the automatic, and that is fine. Is it really that surprising some would want to wait for the new A8? It doesn't surprise me at all. If people want to wait, so be it. Do you really need to justify to yourself that buying the first year model was a good move and put down those who would prefer to wait?

I was totally indifferent to whether the 2015 gets an A8 or not. Actually I assumed they would be getting it, but instead I thought to myself - why wait an extra year just for two extra gears which won't make a measurable performance increase. Then finally when an article came out which made people certain the 2015 would have an A8, there was a pour of messages from (if not haters then what would you call them?) posters literally laughing and saying "your 2014's are obsolete, this will kill your resale value, haha" etc. So my post which you qouted was basically addressing those people.
Anyway thanks for informing me what I feel and how I think - that's all stuff I didn't know about myself before lol

For those who are "waiting" for the 8-speed, I wouldn't be so quick to think that what's going to go into the Stingray in 2-years is what's going into the Z06 later this year.
Just like there are two versions of the PDK, there may be two different "versions" of the 8L90. The Z06 version may be programmed for more lightning fast shifts and have other, more performance oriented parameters, which the base Stingray 8-speed may not have.
Time will tell. I'm VERY happy with my A6 C7.
