Default Z51 Tires in the Rain

We very seldom see temps below 40 and it hasn't snowed here in about 36 years but we do get alot of rain. Now that the cars have been on the road for several months and the miles are building what has been everyones experience in the rain? How's the traction, hydroplaning, etc? Am I going to have to be extra careful or just normally careful?

From my experience, I'd say you have to be just normally careful with tires as wide as the C7 has. But the Z51 tires are MUCH better that the original Goodyears on my C6,

The new type of rain tire was developed in F1 racing in the late 1960's. It has large gaps between the tread blocks and then good width to make up for the rubber lost to the gaps.

The C7 Super Sport tires look about right.

Suspension setup for rain is a softer suspension. A softer suspension is slower load transfer or as they say in oval track racing that's "less bite"
.

They are fine in the rain just not good in the cold.

I have been in a few heavy rains without any problem. I use the weather setting and keep the speed down.

We picked up our Z51 'vert' at the Museum on the 8th and drove it back to Texas the next day. 500 of the 800 miles was in rain ranging from 'mist' all the way to 'you can hardly see past the hood'. In WEATHER mode the car performed flawlessly, no hydroplaning at all. Average speed over the 800 miles was in the low 60's with most of the freeway time in the low 70's.

Mileage, by the way for the trip was 34MPG!!!

Had a similar experience in November on a 3000 mile trip from the Museum to CA. Tires were great.
