I talked to two engineers who were direct part to this incident. There wasnt much to it really. The engineer in the driver seat was looking at data on a laptop and the road they were on was fresh paved and had a dropoff edge. He left his lane just enough to pull the car off the road, he corrected, then corrected again and slid off the road into the rock.
Wasnt really a "big" incident internally. They said it gave the development team an opportunity to analyze some crash damage in a real life incident, plus it gave the team who develops the procedure for dealers to repair the car a head start on their work. In the end the car was repaired pretty quickly he said, and was back in use.
At first it was rumored to be Mero driving, but when asked he directly denied being the guy. It seemed to be a powertrain engineer that did it....but no finger was ever directly pointed.

Question, peripherally related to the subject of developmental vehicles…
Does anyone know if any of the the "captured test fleet" is still driving around or have those cars been pulled off the road and crushed?
Or were some of them going to be put up for sale at some point?
Just wondering.

I buy all of that story except the "I was looking at data" bit.
Sure... data. Got it.

That crash may have helped me get my car! My dealer told me that the blue crashed car was supposed to be in the Cleveland Auto Show..I was disappointed when I went to the show specifically to see the "new" corvette...and there was none to see. I had to order my car without ever seeing one. I believe if one were at the show more people would've ordered one and beat me to the "allocation" punch with my dealer. As it happened mine was the first sold in Northeastern Ohio
