Default My Torch Red Paint After Color Sanding/Detail

Although my car was delivered with a pretty decent fit and finish, I still was not satisfied with the orange peel. It was bad enough where my reflection was "fuzzy" and out focus (you guys know what I mean). So, I had my buddy color sand and buff out the paint and the results are amazing. As you can see from the pics, my reflection is sharp (like a mirror) and the car looks awesome. So, if anyone is wondering if its worth the time, effort and money the answer is a definite...YES.

along with pics, I'd rather see you post HOW he did it... what sanding # grits, what polish, what sealant, etc...

Why buy a car/color that requires wet sanding upon delivery? Someone convince me.

No the clear coat is intact all around. What they did do is mask off along each of the edges and creases to avoid hitting areas that are known to have a thinner layer of clear from the factory.

Yep. I did the same thing myself on my track car:

Progressively used 300, 600 and 1200 grit along with Meguires Solo with multi-cut and polish pads on my rotary buffer.

Took me about 4 hours total. I imagine a brand new C7 would be slightly less timewise.

3000 grit for wet sanding 3m polish quart $50.00 3m polish $50.00
Buy this stuff from an Auto body supply house. Not Autozone.
7 in polisher Some use a Grits! Harbor frieght also has them with the foam velcro on pads. Get a gray and a yellow pad!
Lots of good microfiber towels!

Thanks for the kind words. I do not know what he would charge since he does a lot of dealer work and restorations here in Orange County so detailing is not normally what his shop does. He's just a really good friend of mine and was willing to help me out.

As far as I know, he used 1500 grit color sanding paper dry with DA power to keep the surface finish even (apparently hand sanding can come back uneven) and then hit it with a series of compounds and Meguiar's wax. I will try and find out the compounds he used prior to the final wax/buffing.

yup...thanks for that...I have a carpro denim pad made to elim orange peel that I will try in the next month or two....my sides have got to be done, my horiz surfaces are OK....

if you can ask him one more question - with a 1500 grit pad on a DA, how many passes did he make on a 2 x 2 area?

the car looks fantastic....

Thanks man. I love it!!! Anyway, when I went to have a "test run" done on a 4 X 4 spot on the drivers rear quarter, he made two light passes and the peel was pretty much flattened out. After a quick buff my reflection was sharp and I was happy with it.
