2015 Reported to have dash cam option

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -
It looks like a video game, but is real life.
General Motors unveiled on Sunday a system that pulls together driving performance data with dashcam video -- giving drivers of its flashy Stingray sports car a way to record and share their experience behind the wheel.
The Performance Data Recorder will be available on the 2015 Corvette Stingray, the automaker said, calling it an "industry first."
"The fully integrated system enables users to record high-definition video, with telemetry overlays, of their driving experiences on and off the track," GM said.
After parking, drivers can relive their route -- whether it was around a racing speedway or downtown for groceries.
The video can be queued up on a dashboard-mounted monitor or downloaded to a driver's computer. The display shows the video plus a speedometer, throttle display and gear indicator. Drivers who use it when racing on an established race course can also see a map of the track and their lap time.
GM said it envisioned racers using the footage to "analyze their laps in incredible detail." The average driver could share the footage on social media.
The system pulls together a video camera mounted on the dashboard, a GPS receiver and the car's computer. A 32 gigabyte card inserted near the glove box can hold about 13 hours of driving data, GM said. It was designed by the company that works with the Corvette Racing team.
GM has not said how much the system will cost.
Chevrolet said the 2015 Corvette Stingray would be available in the third quarter of 2014.

Video quality not as good as a GoPro but, you didn't get all the overlay info either. Video is still pretty good quality though!
I just wonder how long until a posted car video from spirited street driving gets someone in trouble.

How long will it take for some negative forum member to post"I told you, you should have waited". actually it is a nice feature which I would have zero need or want. Also there will be no end to changes in the C7 no matter when you buy...party on Garth..

Drifting
lol, just kidding. Car already has more than enough tech. Only thing I would be interested in is if/when they give the base C7 a power bump (like C6 LS2 to LS3)

It's a cool option, but it's not a "must have".

Exactly. I do the same thing. This isn't worth waiting for. Plus HLT is a $20 app. I'll bet this option will be at least $800-1000.

Lap time
What, no comments on the lap time??
For what I believe to be a showroom stock car the lap time was very sweet.

I would not pay for this as an option even if it were to be an option on my '14 car. Also, I only drive manuals so the automatic means nothing to me.
Maybe you meant to say the new automatic will make the current automatic obsolete, but the entire car? . Come on people!

If Hooter's would offer curb service with carhops, I'd be the first in line for one of these.

F I N A L L Y.
thanks talon..
Except for the ugly departure of Corvette tradition rear end The Corvette team is humiliation Porsche.
The new GT3; no comp. Seats, not manual, no data / video system, harder and harder to get repairs warranties when Chevy is stepping it up exponentially with the Z28 and corvette honoring warranties when tracking cars. I read a GM quote somewhere; we warranty it unless you hit a wall or money shift it.. Freakin awesome.
At probably 200 track days at Sebring in GT3's I need to pound the living day lights out of it at Sebring. 2:23 is nothing to sneeze at. That can be a sub 2:20 on track tires. My best lap on R compound tires is a 2:174 at Sebring...
At double the price, Porsche offers none of that..
I'm going to have to order one just to reward GM for honoring is DE track junkies.
The initial quality issues should be taken care of for the 2015 models.
Dealers; when you are ready, 3LT NRB black interior please...
