Never heard of FLAC. I must be out of the loop. . . Time for some research.

Anyone interested in FLAC would never be interested in using the stock OEM audio system anyways.

You'd never notice the difference between a good mp3 and FLAC in the C7 media system. You'd need a high-end system in a quiet room for that.

Free Lossless Audio Codec

FLAC is a musical file format that offers bit-perfect copies of CDs at half the size, and is compatible with many phones (including the iPhone -- with an app), MP3 players, and hi-fi components. It's available for the same price as the equivalent MP3 in online stores, and it sounds much better.

Aux is going to cut a lot of quality compared to USB.

people say the new Bose is better then before, but every Bose speakers I've heard in cars and in homes are so inferior to systems costing 1/3-2/3+ as much. To get good sound out of the front speakers for mid bass/mids, you would need to put in decent sound deadening. Idk how much highs would benefit from sound deadening.
I haven't seen the amp(s?) for the c7 but the c6s Bose amp was a joke.

iTunes has lossless format comparability. I don't know which ones are supported. I don't know why it would not be able to be played if the iphone/iPod model plays in the c7

You don't get any FLAC unless you're over the target.

Couldn't resist.

Now that's what I'm talking about for a sound system.

The infotainment manual specifically says WMA and Apple lossless formats are not supported. See page 21.

Is it that the system doesn't recognize the .flac file name but can still play the file? Would someone do an experiment please, and simply rename a .flac music file to a .mp3 file extension, and see if it plays?

Renaming won't do a thing...it's a diff file under any name...many free converters from flac to mp3 on web.....tunes on mypiratebay.org are flac...great site...high quality stuff

I would be nice if the car could read FLAC so I don't have to convert my CD's to two separate formats, but I wasn't surprised that the car didn't support it. I am more surprised that it doesn't support lossless WMA and lossless Apple itunes.

Maybe FLAC can be added by a third party app in the future. The codec is open source.

I'm too occupied listening to the sweet sounding exhaust.
