To the OP
Although it has a lot of features found on luxury cars, it's a performance 'sports' car. It will out drive my Lexus in every category being a sports car. But my Lexus will feel more like a luxury car in every category and ride smoother and much quieter. Sound deadening adds lots of weight that would bring the performance numbers down. As the commercial said, every ounce had to earn it's way on board. Those wide rear tires are also going to add noise, especially on concrete highways. But they'll guide you where you want to go when lessor more quite tires will just do OK in that category.

Yeah compared to the C6 its quiet. Different tires can help. I bet you could get a lot of tips on DIY solutions from the C5/C6 crowd. I'll ask around the office,

Since I didn't track my car and wasn't concerned about a few additional pounds, I installed the full insulation kit and the Lloyds mats. This made a noticeable difference. However the major change came when I replaced the Run Flats with the Michelin PSS. My wife noticed the change immediately (helped justify the price of the tires). The older the Run Flats, the harder they become and the more noise they make. The car handles great with the PSS and is much quieter, and much smoother. We have made a 3000 and 2000 mile road trip (since the tire change) and the car was a pleasure to drive. There is still a significant noise difference between the asphalt and concrete.
Does anyone else have any tire recommendations that will make my car cruise more like a GT than a hard core sports car?
And anyone interested in an almost new set of ZPs, with 542 miles on them, for $1k shipped?

Road noise is a non issue in my C7, soooo.. much less cabin noise then my C6 it reediculous.
My wife thinks the C7 coupe is quiet as her BMW 335I and said she prefered the new vette as the new long distance road trip car.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 looks like the obvious all-season tire and an all-season tire will be tamer than the summer performance tire

the OP bought the hard core version of the vette (saw no mention of MRC , which might have smoothed things out.). He even said the Z51 package was a must have. Then he complains about noise and stiffness, and wants to get some type of tire to make his car more GT like. It sounds like he just wants a swoopy looking luxury car, not a sports car. Perhaps a low end MB SL , Jaguar, or Bimmer M4 might be more to his taste.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I'm leaning towards changing the tires. The Michelin PSS have a very good noise/ride quality survey score at Tire Rack.

I have and like the Bridgestone Potenza S0-4 tire, non RF. It is a max Summer tire with good all around qualities at a reasonable price. Check out Tire Racks review and testing.
Better ride and much quieter too.
Maybe not the fastest tire but as the test show a all around top performer.

Man this car is noisy on the freeway, so much road noise. My car is a Z51 Coupe 3LT Auto.
At freeway speeds, one has to almost shout to hold a conversation with the person sitting next to you.
The stereo sounds great at slow/no speed, but speed up, and the road noise all but drowns it out unless you to crank it up to “give me a headache” volumes (and yes I do have the volume compensation thingy turned on).
This is not engine or wind noise, it appears to be coming from the tires.
And I can hear little stones hitting underneath the car quite a lot, it’s like there’s little or no sound deadening on this car.
I have no idea what the other generation cars interior noise level is like, since this is the first Vette I have ever owned.
I love the sport with a luxury touch ideal of the 3LT trim level, which is why I ordered it that way, but man that road noise is just spoiling it for me.
I installed a “partition” from Exoticvette as I had read in another thread that it helps with the road noise coming from the rear, and while it looks good and functions great as a partition, it did nothing to suppress any road/tire noise.
I suppose, since I think it’s mostly generated from the rock hard tiny super stiff sidewalled run flat tires, that my best option will be to hurry up and wear out the Michelins and look for a softer and quieter riding set of tires, and even maybe going up a smidge on the sidewall size, like from 35 to 40 for the fronts and from 30 to 35 on the rears, if they even come that size. Just thinking out loud here.
I really don’t feel like removing all the interior to install Dynomat to everything, but maybe I will have to if I’m to enjoy this car, which is my dream car, that I have been saving/planning for for the past 7 years.
Sorry for the long winded rant, I’m hoping to get some advise from others on this topic, maybe some advise on which tires brand/types would be best for me on this car.

Is road noise going to be the next engine blow up hyperbolic and repeated threads?

Our other car is a Pontiac G8GT, fairly wide tires, 245/40x19s. Car is quiet on the interstate but on other than coarse aggregate roads, our base C7 is almost as quiet, very calm and pleasant.
Were there transmission or differential problems, that would likely be a different story.
With our C7, you’d have to be very cranky to complain about the sound level. If you don’t like it, get a Lexus 460L or something similar. Don
