Guys and Gals. Just like Windows: If we prefer, we can get lots of software updates, and frequently to boot. I am really excited about this. We have, on our hands, a pretty configurable system here.

I would guess they are all related. The update may have required clearing a "cache" of some sort. Anyway, in my case, all I had to do was reenter some favorites, relink the display to drive mode, and set up my passive unlock choice. No biggie at all--completely worth getting the dimming display problem fixed.

So there is now no adjustment for daytime brightness?

Can it be fully dimmed down at night?

That is correct no dimming needed in daytime. Night time it controls the IC and NAV simultaneously and is dimmable.
They did a nice job.

Does the Service Bulletin on this have a number or other identifier?
Thanks.

It should dim the IC at night time.

I'm sure it would for clueless service writers....but shouldn't you be able to go to your dealer and say "hey I can't see my dash at dusk, wassup?" and they know what to do??? In an ideal world I suppose so...glad I have the TIS link so I can print out a list of all the numbers of the updates when I bring my baby in!!!

Mine doesn't do it in either day or night. Also, the **** itself is not back-lit. Should it be? If so, I am guessing when they put together my dash it was never hooked up.

I just talked to the service writer at my dealer to add this update on during my Monday appointment to have the diff fluid checked. She had no clue. I explained the problem and the fix and that it's available now. Her response: just bring it in, describe the problem and the techs will search for a bulletin/recall while they check it out. This is a large dealership, I wouldn't think that I was the first to mention this problem or the fix.

I'm definitely taking a in a copy of the post above with the bulletin number.

Thanks. I just called my service advisor and he was able to find it. Said the PI stands for Preliminary Information but there are complete instructions. Won't actually do it until Spring as winter has arrived in MI and car stored until April.

Well, mine got done yesterday. I took it in at 7:30, got the call at 16:30 it was done, but they couldn't look into the dash rattle (the original reason for taking it in) because it took them all day to get the software update applied.

I'll pick it up today, and I guess they won't look at the rattle until they let me know they part they ordered three weeks ago has arrived...

If I read this thread correctly, now there is no adjustment for daytime brightness. This will be very interesting since the convertibles sometimes require more or less light when the top is down.

It also seems some can't adjust the panel at all including at night time. I can't imagine that is intended, or not able to be fixed.

pretty much true across all brands and price levels, foreign or domestic...the car buffs usually know more about their cars' issues than dealership staff
otoh, remember service folks have as many as dozens of models and many years of back production of product , and none of them , I assure you, read car boards of every model they sell, when they go home
and unless there is a recall, all these fixes just gets filed as a TSB, for which there are scores for every car sold
