Default Interesting and very useful cruise control feature...

I recently discovered a really cool feature about cruise control in my Stingray. I am normally an avid fan of manual shifting and love to be an active driver, but sometimes you are on a freeway/interstate and just using the Vette for transportation.

Let's say you are in sixth gear, on cruise control at highway speed and you decide to upshift to seventh. If you push in the clutch only long enough to upshift and immediately release the clutch, cruise remains activated, revs are automatically matched, and the shift is seamless with you never having to touch the gas pedal. Works on a downshift as well, especially with rev-matching turned on. I found this useful in the mountains when you start ascending a grade in 7th with cruise on.

If you hold in the clutch, cruise deactivates after a few seconds.

This is actually documented in short paragraph in the manual which I'd overlooked. I think it's a very thoughtful feature.

Any other manual car I've ever owned deactivated cruise control with the slightest touch of the clutch.

Actually, if you just shift like you normally would
It will resume at the speed you were at. No need to do
Anything special. It just works!!!

Now if they would just add adaptive cruise they'd have it covered!

Adaptive cruise is when your car slows down automatically when traffic ahead of you slows down and then back up to preset cruise speed when it picks back up again.

Requires radar. If you put in radar, might as well add collision mitigation like many new cars are now getting but GM seems to be very hesitant adding this into the high end cars for some reason.

I LOVE the adaptive cruise on my '06 DTS. Most high end cars now have a much more sophisticated system that will actually stop the car when needed and then restart. Even the new Accord has the basic system available now so I don't know why the Vette doesn't at least have the version my Cadillac has...not that it would stop me from buying one but it is hard to leave once you've had it

I have noticed an uptick in the number of false alarms from the rear on my Valentine V1 in the past year or so (my older model - 5 years old - in my DD). Interestingly, my rear view mirror...more often than not...shows an unobstructed view of a new Lexus or Mercedes.

Please note that I said in the OP that it was in the Owner's Manual, but I had overlooked it.

It is a single small paragraph in the upper left hand corner of a page and I assumed others may not have noticed it.

Just pointing it out to the forum users as a courtesy.

Adaptive cruise control. That is what the fingers on the left hand are for. Just match speed by tapping the set button or the resume button. 1 mph up or down per tap. Tap set 5 times and the speed drops 5 mph.

Autonomous vehicles are already on the roads here. Google has been testing them on the open roads in the bay area for a couple years now. Most manufacturers are shooting to have them on the showroom floor by the 2020 models.

No thanks. I'd rather drive myself.
