Default Transparent Roof Option

Anybody getting this? I would love to put it on my order but $2K seems like a rip-off. That's the price for a 2 roof option, the body colored and the transparent but you already had the body colored roof on your base car! Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that make the transparent roof cost $2K? Maybe I need to go back and run the build tool again.

I think his point is this...

the $995 version you only get one roof, thus, getting "credit" for your standard roof which you don't get to keep.... to keep the standard roof and still get the transparent cost $2k. So, the transparent roof cost is actually $2k.

I wanted a transparent roof but did not want to pay the $995, I figured I could order the parts and build one up much cheaper. So I checked the parts price to build a C6 roof (to give me a baseline idea of coat) from the discount parts houses online and it was +-$1400 to build one. I ordered the factory roof.

Yes I understand, I think it's a waste to have the 2 roofs, you would never put the painted one on !!! I just like the break off with all the red , that is the reason I ordered the trans roof ! I am very happy with the look of my car !

OK, I went through this same thought process, as well! I think what he is saying is Chevy has to supply the body painted roof with the Coupe ($0); but, if you want the dual roof package (painted + the transparent), the cost is $1995. So, you are really paying $1995 for the transparent roof since the painted roof costs $0. On the other hand, if you just want a transparent roof you can get it for $995, but you won't get the painted roof! Anyway, I didn't think that I could live in FL with only a transparent roof (too hot at least 5-7 months a year), so I decided that I would purchase only the painted roof for zero additional dollars!!

I have both the regular body colored top and the glass one. Right now the glass one is on. I like having the ability to change it when I please .

I think you're just confused.

At the moment GM is forcing you to order the transparent top because that's all they have. The price for that now "mandatory option" is $995.00.

The $2000 you're quoting is for the dual top option, both the standard painted and transparent.

Does that make sense.

Here's more to confuse you, if you want to be more confused. j/k

Look at it this way. The painted top is included in the price of the car.

The two roof option costs $1995. After you pay the $1995 and get both tops, you then sell the painted top back to GM for $1,000. Now you have just the clear top at a cost of $995.

GM saves you and them a lot of trouble by just going ahead and giving you the $1000 for your painted top by not installing it on the car and then having you ship it back for the $1,000 refund.

Maybe I'm just dense but no that doesn't make sense to me. GM is not forcing me to order the transparent roof. I want to *add* the transparent roof and I don't want to give up my trick, light-weight, carbon-fiber, body colored roof panel and get charged $995!

I am with Slappy, I got both tops and have the clear on now. It's perfect for this time of year.
I keep the one I am not using under the bad for safety.
I always regretted not getting the clear top when I ordered my C5. Not this time. Pricey but worth it IMO .

If the painted top is included in the price of the vehicle then the glass roof should be $995 extra and you still get the colored roof, right? I paid for both but I am just saying.

To my mind, the carbon-fiber body-colored roof panel is just standard equipment. The transparent roof is not an 'upgrade' to me it's just a nice option. There is no way I'm paying $995 + my carbon-fiber roof for the transparent roof. That's a rip-off. I *might* have considered buying the transparent roof for $995.

OK, here is the solution to our problem - just order the base painted roof for $0; then, later your dealer and/or GM will be selling the transparent roof for $995 - so, you can get the "dual roof package" for $995, and have the last laugh on Chevrolet!!!

JR BURN (Post #15) has a "transparent for sell" - there ya go - someone can save a $1k now without needing to wait on your dealer or GM to offer the Transparent Roof "For Sale" - I rest my case!!
