Default Atter 16 long days in the shop with eLSD issue, Finally took her home

With great excitement, I watched as the truck started offloading my car on 10/3. That is where my excitement took a 16 day break.

Here is the timeline of events since then. I stayed calm and give GM the benefit of the doubt, but now I wanted to share my experience now that I finally have my car.

I also want to say I place 99% of the blame of GM, not the dealer. The dealer has been open with me but can only do so much without the parts.

TIMELINE:

10/3 - Car arrived at noon, going to pick it up at 5pm
Dealer called and said there was clunking, buzzing, and other strange sounds coming from rear end. Dealer called GM and tried flushing the eLSD with no success.

10/4 - Dealer and GM had call and determined it was likely eLSD control module. GM to send one. Part ships

10/5 - Saturday, no action

10/6 - Sunday no action

10/7 - part arrives late in the day, install complete by 5pm

10/8 - eLSD is flushed and car is tested. Seems to be ok, I get the call to pick up the car at 5pm. About 4:30 I get the call that the rear tires are still chirping and banging when car is cold and needs more work.

10/9 - Internal discussion at GM and they agree to send whole new eLSD. Supposedly it shipped - no tracking information provided by GM

10/10 - Supposedly in transit- no tracking information provided by GM

10/11 - Supposedly in transit- no tracking information provided by GM

10/12 - Supposedly in transit- no tracking information provided by GM

10/13 - Supposedly in transit- no tracking information provided by GM

10/14 - Supposedly in transit- no tracking information provided by GM

10/15 - GM calls and said how did the install go, my dealer says they have never received it. GM rep was supposed to call dealer back later in the day, never called back.

10/16 - GM rep still has not called back (but it turns out , I found out later, the Rep shipped a second eLSD on this day)

10/17 - I got word from the dealer that the Rep shipped a second ELSD on Wednesday and will arrive on Friday. The first one actually never shipped because they shipping person couldn't decide if it should ship with oil or without oil, so it just sat there for 8 days!

10/18 – Both eLSDs arrived. One from BG and one from Detroit. Tech works all day and finishes replacement around 6:30pm. Old eLSD is going back for Failure analysis.

10/19 – Car is detailed, I test drive it, and everything seems perfect! We finalized payment, and we drove off! A long wait but worth it!

The saving grace was that they caught it during PDI, so I never actually paid for the car until is was fixed. Thank goodness the Dealer did the PDI and did it properly!

Last night we took it out to the Shops at Legacy, sat and watched as at least 20 different people took pictures and posed with it.
When I was leaving, a guy with a 2013 Aston Martin V8 Vantage S explained how he really liked my car, but proceeded to tell me how his car cost $176,000 and looked better. He then tells me that his 0 to 60 time was 4.6 and I was thinking to myself, he paid $111,000 more than me for a slower car. WHY???

Here are some pictures!

Good to hear you finally got it. Mine was 7 days old and went in for AC and radio issues. Took 8 days, 3 engineers from GM flying in to resolve it. I feel your pain.

Certainly glad they got it figured out. Sounds like a bad eLSD in the end. Congrats on finally getting it without getting stuck anywhere!

Looks like another younger buyer! Hope this doesn't turn you off to future Corvettes!

Just FYI: I have an Aston Vantage too. These are really special cars and you have to experience it to understand the difference. Astons were not designed as 100% optimized performance cars, the weight of the leather alone probably costs you .1 seconds in the 0-60. Having said that, I think that guy over-paid for his car. Realistically, the Vantage is 2x the cost of a Vette.

pookie, what dealer did you get it from? I've spent some time at dealers in your area and just wonder if I've been to them before?

yeah, well it seems to end well for you. aren't you glad you weren't on a 2000 mile trip and then it happened?

good dealer. might want to give out their name.

good dealers and service is/are sometimes hard to find.

that would be your form of "appreciation," to them. then, send them the thread.

Glad it worked out. Too bad the mix up with shipping the part was such a cluster.

Curious if during your converstations with the dealer and the repair tech if you gained any insight on what training they received on the C7.

Kelly,

I've been tracking the first year issues reported on this blog and other sources. As a potential buyer, can you tell me what (SPECIFICALLY) GM is doing to address these problems, especially the ones that seem to be cropping up over and over?

I want a C7, but at this point not badly enough to trade in my 2012 C6 that has been virtually FLAWLESS. How is GM going to change my mind?

Thanks...

Maybe it was the dealer taking it for a Joyride? I just picked it up Saturday.

The dealer was Reliable Chevy in Richardson. Top notch service. They had 3 people wanting to outbid each other on a stock unit but still wouldn't sell it for over MSRP. A true class act!
