Vendor threads in C7 sections
We continue to experiment in trying to find the right balance between giving supporting vendors the exposure they need to be successful while trying to avoid overwhelming discussion sections with vendor sales threads.
Since 1999 we have allowed supporting vendors to market and promote their products and services with sales threads in most sections of the site.
In recent years, we have imposed some limits on the number of sale threads vendors could have on the first page of a 48-hour directory in sections where they post.
When the C7 section was introduced, we prohibited any vendor sale threads initially and created a sub-section for vendors to post their C7 sales threads.
It was an experiment that didn't work as well as anticipated, so we're going to experiment further, starting today, by allowing vendors to have just one sales thread on the first page of a 48-hour directory in all C7 sections except for the vendor sales subsection, where there is no restriction on the number of vendor sales threads.
We're also continuing to look at the possibility of some further restrictions on the number of sales threads a vendor can have on the first page of a 48-hour directory in a few of the less active sub-sections in some other generational sections.
