This is a great post on why I would never want to watch a "surgeon" perform heart surgery on me. Way too gory and scary.

I would think a regular (non-HUD) windshield would cause a slight double image as both the first and second glass surfaces would reflect towards the viewer. I suspect the HUD specific windshield coating would enhance the first surface reflection and suppress the second surface to reduce the double image.

a HUD windshield does "add" a bit more details but honestly I've looked at non and HUD windshields and couldn't tell the difference.

I installed an HUD unit in my C5. It was pretty straight forward and "plug and play." Comparatively speaking, it was a simple job. This looks to be a nightmare. So, I offer up a challenge to some enterprising young buck on this forum to streamline this process and invent the necessary components for a quick and easy install. Someone take the ball and run with it.

HUD windshields are a scam.

The hud is not worth the effort.

HUD is but one of numerous geegaws thrust upon uninformed 2LT and 3LT buyers.

That's what I was thinking. Particularly since I know myself and my capabilities well enough to know I should never attempt something like this myself. So when the OP said there was lots of labor involved, for me that would mean lots of additional cost paying someone to do it for me...assuming I could find someone I trusted enough to do it. I'm also guessing that a Chevy dealer would not be willing to do it??

Kind of confirms my original notion of getting everything I wanted on the car to begin with. Still, I know that for a lot of people, the extra cash to go from 1LT to 2LT might be a waste if they were only doing it for that one feature.

Don't see anyway of streamlining as the dashes are different and need to be replaced

Careful. That's a stereo type. I did not get the HUD on my C5 and later wished I had it. I vowed that if I got another Corvette I would have it. So this was an informed decision on my part. I happen to like it a lot as do many others. So not everyone is doing this out of ignorance.

So much like the beginnings of HUD installs on the c6 when nobody really knew what they were getting in to AND IT TOOK ALL DAY, but eventually was narrowed down to about an hour and change install in a 1LT the C7 should prove to be the same in a few months or so once all ducks are in a row and shortcuts discovered.

I had a HUD installed on my C6 by Steve Doten when he came out to California. He did a nice job and I was glad I did it; however, I would probably never do it again. I did not get the benefit from the HUD like I thought I would. It got to the point I didn't notice it was there.

my c6 was the first one he ever did in CT after doing c5's .Took all day but at the end of the day it worked like a champ. Hd his uncle or somebody helping him.Soldered wires and all that.Very good job. I was going to have him do a 2013 I bought last March but never did because I got rid of the car.NOW,HE HAS THAT STUFF DOWN TO AN HOUR AND A HALF OR SO.

dang; a lot of us added HUD to our C5's... and thought that was a lot of work. But in the C7... looks to be a mega project.

Cheers to you for doing this.

If you're autocrossing or running road courses... it's a must. Since I do neither, I could live without it

when selling our last two Corvettes, seems one of the first questions asked by prospective buyers was "does it have that HeadsUpDisplay thing ?" That's why our 2015 has it (and the PDR)

.

It's always a mega project when a new gen comes out until the process is fine tuned. I remember guys doing their c6's with lights on their head and the dash torn apart and happy it only took 12 hours over 2 days!! lol. By the end of the run it was 2 hours or less without ripping the dash apart.

The C7 and the c6 are totally different. They c7 is closer to the new Camaro than the old Corvette. you will have to remove the dash as there is just no way around it. The dash in it self is a puzzle removing and putting back in. I had it out with out ever doing it and no how to's in about 5 hours. After getting it out and looking at possible ways of "streamlining" I came to the presumption that there is no real way of doing this with out modifying the dash and changing the structure of it. THe c7 HUD projector is larger than the c6 and if you've seen it you'll realize it fills up darn near the whole dash area.

On a side note, I've installed over 400 H.U.D.'s in various cars including the c6 and have a fastest time of 23 minutes from start to finish. The C7 has to be, by far the worst experience on an install including the camaro

Wow. Real feeling of accomplishment when you get it done yourself. Your pics reminded me a little of my wife's look of surprise and comment when I had our '15 interior gutted to install Crazy Cowboy's sound deadening kit. I had the seats out, carpets out, trim out, weather stripping out around the deck, etc. She opened the door into the garage, saw all the stuff lying around, got a smile on her face, and said 'do you know how to put it all back?' I said 'we'll see', and she smiled and went back in the house.
