Default Issues with C7 Trunk

We got our C7 early on Monday. One thing noticed was trunk doesn't close properly, had to close it several times before it would actually close flush. Seems to latch but the trunk light would still stay on and if you drive, it will say trunk still open. I talked with dealer and he mentioned the blue one he has also has the same issue.

Anyone else on this forum deal with trunk issue?

I noticed the same thing on 2 C7s. It needs a good push to lock down and doesn't seems to have the pull down feature as the C6. I'm going to check the online manual.

Do you also notice on the right side of the trunk you can kinda push down on the corner as if it's popped up or something and not flush?

Same issue here. I thought it would be easier to close with the new technology they supposedly used with metal taking on different properties when electric current is applied. It's good with the windows open, but when they are closed, you really have to slam it, to close it.
Another bug to get worked out.

Mine closes fine, flush all around. You still have to close all the way manually, one of the things that was improved in '09 on the Z06 was auto closing and it's a pretty nice feature we should all have. The hatch closes fine with the windows open but the "vent" doesn't do what it's supposed to.

I think i heard something about them getting rid of the auto closer because of weight reduction. I personally would rather the added weight.

Agreed, my white one is the same way. Rather an annoyance to close the trunk and then have to press down on it fairly firmly to get it to latch all the way, especially if there's any dirt on my hands I can't see (heaven forbid) and it dirties up the white.

Can you try closing the hatch with the car door open or window down a bit? Do you get the same results?

Much easier when the window or car door are open.

I thought the "memory metal" latch device was used to open a vent that let the air out so it closed easier.

I noticed this while watching an NCM delivery. The guy from the NCM tried to close the hatch at least three times before finally giving up and pushing down on the hatch. He even looked inside thinking something might be blocking it from latching.

I just got mine on Friday and have experienced the same problem with closing the hatch. So much for the new technology... I figured the new metal feature they touted would have an issue eventually, but not right out of the gate! I guess I'll just slam it like on my '05 when the windows are up. Mine was one of the Nashville cars, #307, and obviously this wasn't the reason for the delay...or they couldn't come up with a fix.

Mine closes fine. The car is very air tight. They taught me at the museum that you need to take your palm in the center and really slam it. You also might try opening a door or window before you close it.

Yes I do the same also, but it's very odd that it needs to be done that way.

yep sure will be nice when it's rainning or snowing and you have to get in the car open the windows so you can close the trunk after you put something in it .
kind of reminds me of the 05's roofs blowing off LOL . it's sounding like the same old GM ,sale them and worry about it later ....

Mine closes flush and even the entire way around too. I did notice last night when closing the trunk with the doors closed that it took a decent push. The only thing I don't like about that is the hand/finger prints it leaves. Call me picky.

SLAM IT! Wow, that seems like bad advice. For the past 30 years I've used what is considered to be the proper way to close the hoods on my Porsche's and other sports cars to prevent damage to the hood / bonnet, lower the hood until it catches on the safely latch then use the palm of your hand directly over the latch and push down with just enough force to close the latch. It's basically the same as the auto close feature on the C6 except your palm is the auto closer.

You've got a composite hatch with a heavy piece of glass mounted in the middle of it. What do you think the result of "slamming" this shut hundreds of times will do to that structure over the life of it?
