Thanks for the info on the bent plate - a big improvement over the standard holder. Regards. Jb

I found a skinny black thin metal license plate cover and used the "corvette " plate to form it so now you don't see the edges and drilled holes in back plate if needed !!! Wayne

What brand frame did you use that fits so nicely inside the Aero panel?

Yours looks Fantastic. Mine is similar...it received lots of positive reaction last weekend at huge Texas Corvette Association Car Show. Since this pic, I've painted the aero plate carbon flash.

It's a typical metal frame in black that I bought at Advanced Auto...it's in the plate frame aisle and I bent it a bit to make it fit.

I'd like to see a pic of the carbon flash as I am going to do the same thing.

Here's the aero plate after it was painted carbon flash. Order paint from automotivetouchup.com.
AER-AP Spray can - Plastic parts adhesion promoter
AER-BC Spray can - Carbon Flash Metallic 501Q
AER-CC Spray can - High Gloss Clear Coat

Lightly scuff aero plate with super fine grit before application of adhesion promoter.

The license plate border is urethane supplied by Pepboys - $4.95.

Definitely like that better than the plain black plastic.

You are correct, a front plate is a slap in the face to all car enthusiasts.

That said, if you live in a area where the troopers will pull you over for lack of said hideous growth on the front, and after you have paid several hundred $ in fines, it just gets old.

The Aero Plate is what should have been issued with every C6. I'm glad to see it was in my trunk when I took delivery of the car.

Thanks for all the great info, especially the photos. I just helped my bro in law install his license plate bracket without a hitch.

I went one step further and trimmed the stock aero panel down to the size of the license plate. Since the plate hides the bracket, no need to paint it.
Also, after looking at the open area of the grille left, I calculated that the aero panel blocks about 50% of the open area. By trimming the panel down, it increases the open area by about 50% or a total of 75% open area instead of 50%.

Thanks for the photos and write up. The alternative license plate holder when mounted on my 07 Vette caused lots of paint damage . This new aero model with your bent plate approach will save my new Vette from damage. Great job

Here's one on Ebay at a reasonable price:
