Default I walked away from my C7.....VIN #49

My C7 finally arrived to my dealer last Saturday.

However..........the dealer decided they wanted more money for the car than I am willing to pay - so I shall wait for the market to cool down and buy a C7 next year when rebates and discounts will return to the marketplace.

I am driving a 2012 C6, so I am not exactly suffering. I'll wait, and hopefully any first year bugs will be gone by next year too.

I did not have a firm deal with the dealer in writing. They called me in July and took my order when they had an allocation slot. The understanding was that we would "hammer out the details" when the car was built. I cannot say that I blame them for wanting maximum price in this limited market. I say - let them make their profit when they can. No hard feelings.

I will continue to follow the forum and see how things are shaking out for everyone else.

Happy motoring

That sucks, but good for you. I hate when dealers do the "bait and switch".

That sucks. Good luck to you.

On the other hand my dealer is charging a whopping $100 doc fees, and that's it. Paying sticker price - no other markups.

Man you seem like a real cool guy with that attitude, I wish I could write it off like that.

That is really unfortunate how greedy dealers can be. I hope you never do business with them again!

I remember something about your dealer merging with another... was this decision to charge you a lot more money a decision by the new company that was merged into, or the same sales guy you went with during the ordering process?

In California you have two options as a dealer. You can either charge a max of $65 doc fees OR you can charge a max of $85 and have DMV audits of your paperwork every 3 months. Guess how much most dealers charge?

And I won't blame you one bit to take your business elsewhere when the prices cool down, to go for the minimum price, when you dont have to pay so much.

No hard feelings.

It's nice to see an OP that has his priorities straight and not writing a post about how he is going to have a heart attack out of frustration. Good on you for waiting and realizing it is just a car and not worth paying a fortune for just to be the first guy on the block. A 2012 is certainly no slouch!

Dealer didn't do anything wrong. OP even said they didn't have an agreed price. Also, OP never said the price was even over MSRP...just that he didn't want to pay it.

I forgot to mention that the $100 includes $40 for State Inspection.

Are you willing to tell us what actually turned you away? What it a trade-in issue on your 2012 C6? If so, I need to prepare myself also. Thanks in advance

No worries.

Plenty of time to get a C7.

The dealer refused to accept a trade of a C6 - they have a bunch of unsold brand new 2013s in stock. That's okay, because CARMAX offered me top money anyway. So, the trade was not a dealbreaker.

Nice post on simply telling the story and understanding why things work the way they do. The same was happening when C6 Z06's were first being built and it's normal supply and demand then and now.

I agree that they'll be discounting like they always do once the novelty wears off. That's why lot's of us in nice tricked out C6's are in no hurry to move over to a C7, as nice as they are. We're happy for those who are getting C7's now and will be joining them later on when the time is right.
