C7 - to Z51 or Not to Z51

I have done a considerable amount of research and am quite conversant with what Z51 does and does NOT do, Thank You for your advice.
What I have attempted to point out is that the Z51 package is an indicated option for a very small group of
Corvette owners who track cars and actually need the additional cooling/lubrication and are willing to accept the negatives such as a significant amount of additional weight which obviously is not performance enhancing. This option is pointless for a toitally street driven car period. It is obvious that some believe that a C7 with Z51 is less of performance car. This is NOT the case and is flatly laughable.
It would appear that it is you who should do some research.

I wonder why the cars GM has been giving to the major automotive magazines for test have the "Z51 with mag ride" options. Hmm all that extra weight and lack of performance?
The Magneto-rheological damper (mag ride) is (IMHO) the most major suspension technology advance in the last 20 years. It provides an infinite number of dampers in real time as a function of driving conditions. I think the Z51 is a personal choice, but the mag ride is a no brainer. Unfortunately they are coupled at this time. So, get them both or you are driving old suspension technology.

well you can do all the research you want but until you actually own a C7 with Z51 or by the very slim chance you were on the engineering team who designed it your opinion means jack squat. .......funny, you don't hear people saying "Damn, I wish I never ordered Z51".....
BTW, I havent heard anyone with the base set up say I should have got the z51..

So you have driven a z51 and base suspension cars back to back on the street and know first hand how poorly the base car performs in comparison , or you happen to moonlight on the engineering team who designed the car?

Because those who wanted Z51 bought it (for whatever their reason is regardless of the doctor's opinion on the validity of the reason) and those who didn't want Z51 didn't buy it. No one should be complaining either way IMO!!

I like your style and thanks for the smack up side the head
The auto would be fine for track duty... no reason it wouldn't be. LOTS of autos spend time at the track. Some people will believe otherwise but there is nothing to suggest the auto would not be great... transmission choice is purely preference IMO as GM would have ensured either would perform at the track. Z51 is, therefore, not a waste IMO on an auto.

When you want info on which sportbike to buy do you request that info from some guy who rides a moped?

I have z51. I don't track my car but I do have spirited drives and I'm so glad I have it. I use it in spirited drives.
Plus my car is worth more!
Plus my car is more desireable with resale value since it has popular options!
Plus the car looks better with the spoiler and Z51 rims.

Scraping the splitter.
Because I wanted my wife to be able to enjoy the Stingray, I bought an A6 instead of an M7. So far, I am pleasantly surprised with the performance of the automatic.
Regarding the Z51, if I never planned on tracking my car, I'm not sure I would have gotten it. I still think that for street use and the owner who is going to occasionally drag race his car, the base model (which we have figured out is about ~60-70# lighter than the Z51 based on real world weights) will be FAR more than adequate.

That should be worth a tick or two a the track.
I also prefer the look without the Z51 spoiler.
The fact that I want MSRC also was a big determining factor in choosing the Z51. It's also cool that with it, there are big changes in ride and handling as it's tied into the Drive Mode Selector.
Either way, you can't go wrong. For the go-fast guys, a base 1LT A6 car would be the ticket. For the track (or just gotta-have-it) guys, an XLT (<----insert trim level here) M7 with MSRC would be a good choice.

I have had two Corvettes without the z51 package and the last two with the z51 package. I will never buy another Corvette that does not have the z51package. I like the larger wheels, bigger brakes, larger capicity cooling system, and the spoiler on the back. For the money you can't go wrong but that is just my opinion
