Gotta love USAA
#41
I've been with USAA since '78 and there have been ups and downs. They have taken care of me when I needed them to do so, so no complaints currently. There was a while there when my wife and I first got married with both active and in different countries, but now that we are both retired from active duty it is okay.
Our Alamo Area Corvette Club laision, Freedom, is selling at invoice and gave club members a break on the desposit. So I can't really complain there, especially after hearing some dealers are charging upwards of $20K over...

Is that "invoice" or MSRP? I find it difficult to believe anyone is selling C7s at invoice (dealer cost)....

Sorry to hear about your buddy at 83 getting turned down. However, all Ins Co's have underwriting rules and many also use credit history besides location, driving record, age, car type, etc.
Those of you with USAA, what do you think of the SSA? I get back around $500 a year and no other company comes as close to them with rates. \
As far as terminating a person with a clean record, well, they would never admit that they did it becuase he MAY be due for an accident. Again, more to it than that.
The 82 year old Veteran served in WW2? He would have been born around 1931 and went overseas as a 14 year old? I know many lied about their age.

Invoice is an excellent price, but don't confuse it with "dealer cost," as I've noticed a couple folks do. GM traditionally offers dealers 3% of MSRP as holdback that's not advertised to the customer. Even the 3% holdback is a decent profit--on a $70K car (MSRP), the dealer still gets $2100 back from the manufacturer once they sell the car. If dealer invoice is $60K, then their actual cost is $57,900. If you buy the car for $60K, that's a $2100, or 3.6%, profit for the dealer based on their cost (2100/57900). Believe it or not, that's ABOVE what they plan for and survive on.
Please understand, I think invoice is AWESOME right now for this car. If I saw an invoice deal right now on a C7, I would jump all over it. Just wanted to mention the difference for those who might be looking for bargains in the coming months/years. I find that understanding the dealer shell game has been really helpful in negotiating price for my last few purchases. There are also a couple great sources of information out there that will give you exact numbers for invoice prices and holdback/factory-to-dealer incentives.
BTW, I'm also a USAA guy, and I like them sometimes, not so much others. Their car buying service is convenient, but I've saved thousands just doing some research. One day I plan to have enough money not to care about $3-4K, but for now it's worth the effort. Plus I find this stuff interesting. I'm a nerd, I guess.

I contacted Freedom Chevrolet and asked about C7s at invoice. This is what I was told:
"...Unfortunately you were given false info... they are being sold at MSRP."

Don't really know a delivery date. Since we did not plan this purchase its a boon whenever it arrives. I seem to recall a thread talking about a web site you enter an order number in and track the build. I will have to investigate.

I completed the purchase paperwork on my car a couple of days ago (museum delivery). I am a USAA member and inquired about the discount. The sales manager (a good friend of mine) had me watch the computer monitor while he inquired about the USAA discount. In fact he brought it up and reminded me of it. Unfortunately it is not honored by GM on the 2014 Corvette.
Interestingly however the "private offer" $1000 discount that popped up on the GM website several times a few months ago for some members was listed as applicable to the 2014 Corvette if you were lucky enough to snag one.

I'm just surprised as to the number of people that don't know the difference between the terms "Invoice" and "MSRP".

I was informed by my dealer that the rebate is not available currently . He had previously stated it would apply. But things could change before my build is complete and delivered.
So Im keeping hope alive and never saying never. Favor !!

$750. rebate from USAA DOSE NOT apple to 2014 corvette. Check with GM site,is it the only GM car that done not qualify for the rebate. USAA info is from last may and has not been up-dated yet. Sorry,I was planning on it too. I also question "invoice" or msrp. I think he means msrp. Hope he clarifies.

I cannot get any local dealers to honor the Costco discount. I doubt that they would be different with USAA. it seems most of these discount programs are elective based upon model/brand demand.
btw, I found Costco's Ameriprise auto ins to be lower than USAA. no problems with claims support over the last 3 yrs. I did have some limitations on where to get work done when I had USAA though.
