OK. 900 Dealers with Allocations

Don't know but will guess that it's around 12,000-15,000 for the initial 6-9 month period.

I think on the first round they gave out 1055 allocations, second round was about double, so JoesC5 estimate sounds spot on, and who knows how many for the rest of the model year.

Could someone please explain the math here. We have 900 dealers, but 1055 allocations (more than the number of dealers?), and 12-15K cars?
Second question, is the entire first round of allocations sold out? Dealers here in SoCal appear sold out until next allocation. One dealer I trust said, the next allocation was 2nd quarter 2014 (is that the third allocation?), and it could be until July to get the car. That's not too promising.

We have had many rounds of allocations so far a high percentage are sold orders, but there are some retail stock orders. It appears you are refering to the orders after the first 6-9 mos as second or third allocation which is not correct, we have already pased the 5th or 6th allocation.

And everyone should understand that they are all sales from GM's perspective, even those for Dealers' retail stock. They are the Dealers' asset at that point to do with whatever they want to do with it. At least that's my understanding.

The math here is 900 dealers all got at least 1 (Actually most got 1) on the first allocation, that left 155 which the big dealers shared, as an example the largest dealer in the US got 25 total other big dealers got less. Second round was greater. Really don't understant your question being there with few exception will be allocations every two weeks so 12 -15K cars in 5 to 9 months is in the ball park.

Also, is there some variability in these allocations, say getting one in one allocation, but not the next? In fact, I spoke to one dealer, and he said they weren't getting any.
So what kinds of questions do you need to ask the dealers so you don't end up with your car coming in in July?

There is variation from consensus to consensus.
After the current 900 dealers have used the allocations from the guide number (4 for most and over 500 for one) an additional 1000+ dealers may be able to order.
The best way to assure getting a Stingray before July is to purchase from the several dealers (my guess 6 to 8) with 150+ allocations. It is somewhat easy to find them as they tend to post on the various Corvette forums. But most of those dealers are located east of the Mississippi River, if that matters.

This sounds like a lot of work, and $6K to $8K in deposits.

Guide number is the number of units for each vehicle line that the dealer can plan to be able to order for a tentative time period. If sales are good the guide number will be adjusted periodically.
For the Stingray a dealer may have been told they may plan on ordering 5, 4 coupes and 3 convertibles over the following 6-9 months.
This is the total number of units the dealer may plan to sell and the bi-weekly consensus and weekly order submission process will also be guided by this number. The idea is to allow the dealer to plan for such things as number of sales staff, service staff, office staff needed as well as other expenses that accompany operating a dealership.
The guide number time frame may be adjusted according to manufacturing capability and and market demand. If the dealers get additional numbers before say six months (in the case of the Stingray)
that will indicate a successful launch and if it takes the full nine months to add or extend to additional dealers guide numbers that will indicate a projected guarded launch.

Thank you for the info Laborsmith.
So is the bi-weekly consensus the maximum number of units the dealer may order in a two week period?
